Most of us grow up wit absentee fathers. I am glad to find a book narrating the trauma that can result from such. Great review.

I'm glad that one can find inspiration from the sad stories encountered by the author. However there are frightful scenes of sexual abuse which are sad that make me look elsewhere. Thank you for sharing this.

Kempfer must have hard a really traumatizing episode, which arguably shaped his adult personality. I shall read this book and gain a better understanding of how our childhood experiences often influence our future.
The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way. - Marcus Aurelius

I don't like sad books so I think this book will be too sad for me to read. Thank you so much for the review.

I am an avid memoir lover and would definitely read this book. I like that it raises the question of proper parenthood. Thank you for this insightful review!

The title and the cover of this book are great. I am glad you gave it such a good review. Normally I don't enjoy books about people who had terrible childhoods, but you make this sound worth reading.

You are right, but having bad Parents is not what matters. What matters is becoming a better person to your children than your parents were. What is your suggestions concerning this.
I think you are right. I agree with you.
