A Bloody Book by Chris Bowen is a book in young adult genre. In the starting, the author has said 'Start for the story. Care for the characters. Stay for the twist.' And throughout the story, the author has kept his words.

The book is a first-person narrative, with a kid Maxx as the protagonist. Maxx is a child with improper parenting and poor socioeconomic background. In A Bloody Book, he narrates some years of his childhood dealing especially how he learned not to give a crap. The story starts with Reading Hell, a nickname for their classroom. No teacher seemed interested in teaching them, except Mr Foxx. He was the first teacher, adored and respected by the class. Mr Foxx taught them some essential life skills, which are reflected further in the story of Maxx's life. Reading how the book turns out to be bloody is fun.

On a positive aspect, the author has kept in mind that the story is from the child's perspective. Some sentences, especially at the starting of chapters reflect innocence and naivety, perfectly suiting the theme. I admire the author for thrillingly highlighting some important points like the effects of bad parenthood and the importance of good teachers in a child's life. I loved the creativity of the author when he compared the length and the content of the ending chapters with the winter days.

The humorous and supportive nature of Mr Foxx attracted me the most. His definition of stupidity was so fulfilling. With Reading Hell students and Maxx, I also carried out the activity of closing the eyes and mentally going back in time. I truly enjoyed this. I admired the struggles of a little boy to arrange food for his baby sister. When Maxx said 'Santa is the kindest to rich and isn't concerned about the poor kids like him.', the situation of the poorer section of the society is put forward.

Overall, there was nothing I disliked about the book. It was an intriguing read. I found no typos or grammatical errors. The book was exceptionally well-edited.

Due to the above-mentioned reasons, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I can't recommend this book to children as it deals with murder. The readers looking for something to blow their minds should surely go for this. Those who enjoy reading stories with random twists will also love the book.
