Thomas Reilly’s Chasing Time is an intriguing story with a sense of mystery and adventure. If you’re looking for an engaging book to immerse yourself in, this is a great one to consider.

When young Tony Lucas gets hold of a newspaper within a time capsule found at his school, some strange things begin to happen. A magic key seems to set events in motion. While Tony has always had an uncanny ability to predict the future, suddenly things elevate to a whole new level. While Tony’s story evolves, we’re introduced to Lucius Fabius Antonius, from the year A.D. 52. Lucius is a Roman olive oil merchant who also has an experience with this magic key. Although living centuries apart, there’s a connection between these two men that forms the basis of the story’s plot.

Chasing Time grabbed my attention right from the beginning. The rich depiction of life in ancient Rome, the colorful character descriptions, and the promising storyline suggested a book I was going to enjoy. The dual stories of Tony and Lucius added interest to the story. Reilly successfully brought these two characters to life. This is a well-written story with a clear and compelling narrative. The book kept me guessing about how the mystery would be solved. It had a good cadence and flow. I enjoyed how he developed the characters and how he added some twists and turns to the story. While I normally don’t read mysteries, I enjoyed branching out to this genre with Chasing Time.

I appreciated all aspects of the book and didn’t find any major faults with it. If there was one minor thing I would change, it would be the description of Tony’s adult life and experience with his wife in the early stages of their marriage. The author described it in such idyllic terms that I felt it lacked a bit of interest. However, this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book. It was a small section of the story, and I liked how the story developed from this point. Chasing Time was also exceptionally well-edited.

Given my enjoyment of the book, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This is a debut book for the author, so I’m even more impressed with Reilly’s ability to deliver such a compelling story.

This book is for readers who enjoy mysteries, and those who are looking for an entertaining book to read. I recommend Chasing Time for readers who would enjoy an immersive story with an engaging plot.
