A fantasy novel with adventure, action, magic and achieving impossible odds. There is plenty of violence, gore, threatened sexual assault but the main cast are 10- to 15-year-old children. The official reviewer compared it to Harry Potter meet Game of Thrones. Leaf was a mage school student without magic. Fearing his removal, he chose trial by combat to stay and his bullied days are over and he then chooses Brimstone as his magic name. Unfortunately, he became a scapegoat for the killing of numerous students. This is the first book in a series called the Brimstone Chronicles.

Heat, Neutron and Brimstone become a team and perform legendary feats. One needs to read the entire book to find out what happens to them. It will be an exciting ride. Very good review.

There's no way a fantasy novel won't hook you down right from the first page, it just has it's own magic. This is a great review and I'm curious to know what happened and what will become of my dear brimstone. Congratulations on BOTD

I have mixed views on this one. It's a fantasy action and adventure, but sexually explicit and violent for minors. Leaf/Brimstone, the protagonist, has many things going against him. He is poor, a target and he is running for his life. I hope he finds safety. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for your review. Generally, I dislike sexual stuff, especially when the characters are young. So a book that implied/threatened sexual assault with a teenage cast is not my cup of tea.

I like dystopian style fantasy books, and this one seems to hold several elements of both. I wonder if the author started this story with young characters that will progress further in the series. The character development is appealing. Nice review.

You've caught my eye with the "Harry Potter meets Game of Thrones" comparison. Maybe it's time to check this one out!

What an interesting review?
Indeed the kid are taking responsibility that even adults would find difficult, using magics like Heat and Neutrons . Leaf Changing his name doesn't make him be safe in mages school since he becomes a scope goat when there are numerous death of student, the suffering the kid undergoes depicts what the less fortunate in our contemporary society goes through.
After reading the review Ian convinced to read the book

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting and entertaining fantasy novel surrounding a young mage who cannot use magic. Because of his lack of magic, he becomes a scapegoat for an attack on his fellow mage students. It is worth a second look. Well done.

The fact that you said it has Harry Potter vibes, it made me want to start reading it there.

Mage from this review is a symbol of perseverance and determination. It seems the odds are constantly against him but somehow he needs to draw strength to pull through it all. Good review

Thanks for the BOTD, Victor Rose! I don't think this is my cup of tea. I was never attracted to magic, battles, bullying and abuse. I left it all behind in schools. Well, the characters are pretty much like cartoons or animation for me and relationships seem to be quite superficial. I would not find an escape in this genre. All the best, nonetheless!

I'm not the biggest SciFi fan, and events involving violence and characters so young limits my interest in the book; so I'll pass on this one. I hope the right audience finds everything that unfolds in this plot intriguing and interesting. Thank you for this honest review.

End of the last great kingdom by Victor Rose is a book I’m look forward to read. I think this is fantasy and adventure. I love reading the book, although it is a book for young children as an adult.
