Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The moment I got this book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, the first question I had was what the meaning of Voulhire was. In reading the book, I discovered that Voulhire is the name of a kingdom in the story. The interpretation and meaning of Voulhire will amaze you, but you need to sieve it out from the pages of this story. The story of Voulhire begins with Idus, the king who brought the lands of Voulhire into unity and prosperity. A prosperous kingdom always faces the challenges of political chivalry, rivalry, and the desire to amass wealth and even the throne by the leading political forces in the kingdom. Wilhelm became the King of Voulhire. His reign is known for its commitment to the prosperity of Voulhire. However, Wilhelm faces the greatest threat to his reign and the kingdom, and that is the desire of some people to hijack the throne. On the other hand, there was Galen, who came to Voulhire after the death of his uncle. The story centres on Galen, as the author told the story through Galen.
The tense relationship and quest for power among the leading figures in Voulhire added a lot of suspense and tension to the plot. Meldorath’s personality, chivalry, and craftiness added seriousness to the book. I loved how the author used these characters to develop the story. Galen Bary was more of a relief from the political tussle and hassle. Although at some point, it seemed as if Galen was getting dragged into the whole thing. Galen’s story is peculiar. His arrival and journey from his city of birth to Magnem Caleum was a genuine reflection of a youthful journey. There are elements of reality in the book. The book is a fantasy book and presents the use of magic and mythical beings. Regardless of the fantasy aspect, the author made sure the characters were engaging and properly used. I love these things in the book.
The author did a good job with this book. However, one has to read for a considerable length of time before engaging with the book. The beginning pages are not as engaging as the latter pages. I did not like that the beginning pages were so bland and that the middle and ending pages were very engaging.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because the plotline was well developed. The author also gave the characters qualities that befit their role. The use of words is friendly. There is a lot to learn from the book.
I recommend this book to lovers of fantasy fiction. The book will be appropriate for individuals who love stories of politics, power tussles, and power usurpation.
