Transportation, which involves the movement of people and goods from one place to another, is as old as man. The need for transportation has always been there. When the industrial era rolled in, the internal combustion motor and the electric motor were developed. The electric motor uses electromagnetic fields to induce movement. It was not a popular choice then, as it required an electrical connection and could not provide the autonomy required by these vehicles. The internal combustion motors, on the other hand, required oil (crude) to function and satisfied the need for autonomy as well.

The Rise of Electric Vehicles and the End of the Oil Age is a non-fiction book written by Fouad Kamel to inform readers about recent developments in the transportation industry. It is no news that electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming common sights on our roads today. It was not always so. Fouad gives us a little insight into the electric vehicle (EV) industry. He mentions big names in EV manufacturing like Tesla and NIO. He describes their early beginnings, the challenges they faced, what they have achieved so far, and also some of their targets for the future.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot. Because it was short, I read it all in one sitting. The book enlightened me. I have heard of and seen some of these EVs, but never have I come across a book as detailed as this. It was concise and straight to the point. The research done on this work was very obvious and commendable. While I was reading, I noticed that the author included a lot of links for further research and understanding of his work. This would easily direct readers who want to know more about the topic to his sources. The author used very simple language to pass across his information. I appreciate that.

I had always thought Elon Musk had been successful from the getgo with his company, Tesla. However, Fouad asserted that this was not the case. I'm sure the Apple CEO then regrets his decision to be absent from the meeting with Musk. The same goes for Williams Li. His story was nothing short of inspiring. The book was wonderfully written. It began by explaining the types and the way the EV engines worked. I was glad to learn this, as I now understand a little more about these EVs.

There was nothing to dislike in the book. I loved the flow, its conciseness, and the way it moved gradually from the known to the unknown. I think readers would find it easy to understand. I found just two errors. They did not interfere with my reading process.

I rate this book four out of four stars. It was professionally edited as well as enlightening to read. I recommend this book to people who enjoy learning more about trending topics in our society.

I've never come across any electric vehicles, I've only heard of them. I'll be reading this book to find out more about how they work.

I’ve been fascinated with Elon Musk since I first heard of him. He runs lots of companies and he’s unbelievably willing to take risks in order to prove his points.

From your review, I noticed that the author exposed some information about enigmatic individuals in the electric car industry. That would be my center of attraction to this book.

Thank you for the recommendation! I like that this book was a quick read, too many times non-fiction author's load their books with filler instead of getting to the point. I'll definitely put it on my reading list.
