I wasn't feeling the book from the beginning, maybe because of the way the reviewer explained it. However, at the point where the reviewer mentioned racial discrimination as a theme, it piqued my interest and I also got interested in the character of the author's mother. An error-free book is like driving (reading) on a smooth road. Kudos to the writer on this.

The book seems to contain a lot of information about the man James H. Morgan. I'd love to read about him as the information in the book seems very intriguing. Great review.

This memoir sounds as though it provides a clear look not only at this period in the author’s life but at a period of US history that many like to forget (or just ignore). I’m intrigued to see why the author chose to write about this particular time of his life as well as how things like segregation, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Kennedy assassination looked through the eyes of a teenager. Thank you for the helpful review.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. I’m currently more interested in fiction rather than biographies, but I will put this one on the back burner for a later stage.

This is a great, memorable story. I like the fact that the author is a master storyteller, capturing the reader's attention from the first to the concluding page. I am adding the book to my shelf.

Racial discrimination exists because of generational taught values. If you place a group of young children in a room, none of them treat anyone a different because of skin color. Then, by the time they are teens, they start showing those tendencies. I think that his mother was one of those people that chose to break that. I am happy that I was raised to never judge a person by their skin color. Great review.

Being a fan of history and memoirs, I would try out this book. I would add this book to my shelf because I would like to know about the life of the author in the army. Thanks for a great review.

Without openness most biographies would be boring. The openness gives the readers a chance to reflect on their own lives and to say this could have been me or that was really silly. Great review.

I believe that this book is insightful, his life story is encouraging. I salute with his mother had taught him about Christian faith, so that he becomes an egalitarian, not discriminating between people. Such a good book. Thank you for your nice review.

Fight against racism is a vital topic. This seems to go on well with the title 'The Reject Bench'. Having a black student protected by troops to attend school and avoid being lynched.

This book seems like a compelling read as far as biographies go. Biography readers should enjoy delving into this. Great review.
