In recent years, the coronavirus pandemic has taken the world by storm. The lives of every single individual were thrown out the window and many people found themselves losing control of their sense of reality. If you are one of those individuals who can relate to this feeling, E.W. Johnson’s Coitioned: A Dr. Sean Nolan Mystery may be the book for you!

Coitioned: A Dr. Sean Nolan Mystery is the fifth book of the Dr. Sean Nolan series. In this novel, readers follow Dr. Sean Nolan, a doctor known for helping resolve multiple cases through his series of investigations. As a result, the failed suicide attempt of ABCDE, his family friend, leads him on a on a deep dive to understand her medical symptoms while simultaneously helping her recover from her attempt.

I found this book to be one that was particularly intriguing. As a college student pursuing psychology, I found myself easily getting absorbed in the investigations regarding suicide and why they happen to people. The amount of medical information I picked up while reading the story was simultaneously informative and investing, preventing any sense of boredom while going through the book. The demonstration of COVID occurring in the background of the book also contributed to the novel’s informativeness as well.

Additionally, I loved the way the author approached the topics of mental disorders, suicide, and the impact that global news can have on certain individuals. As someone who has seen the impact negative news can have on one’s mental health, there were times when this book hit rather close to home. However, this didn’t end up being a problem because the author always successfully created a balance between serious discussion and light comedy.

The only thing that bothered me was the pacing of the book. There were a couple of moments throughout the plot where I felt like things were moving too slowly, but it didn’t heavily disrupt my enjoyment of the book. Although I found one error, it did not distract from my enjoyment of the book. Given all those reasons, I would give this book a 4 out of 4.

I would highly recommend Coitioned: A Dr. Sean Nolan Mystery to people who have either a psychological or medical background. The jargon throughout the book heavily appeals to people in the given fields and the predicament of ABCDE’s mysterious medical condition is guaranteed to draw the attention of those who like doing neurological research. People who are fans of mysteries may enjoy this book as well.

I’ll recommend this to anyone contemplating suicide or who has anyone around going through a difficult times. It’s always so difficult to detect the really depressed ones. I hope everyone finds their place of peace.

I’m not really sure of all the things that influence a suicide. I am sure that ABCDE was very appreciative of the help she received. I don’t know that the symptoms are the same for everyone.

As a medical student, this review of the book sounds intriguing enough to make me want to go through the adventure of this novel and discover more about how most people were feeling at the time when there was the less communication ever.
