Fly fishing in the story acted as the glue to bring together the women into sisterhood. It became the channel to build a good story.

Though, fly fishing seemed a little strange to me at first. But I'm glad got to know of it from this book

Kat Berg wrote: 02 Feb 2018, 11:43 What did you all think of the role fly fishing plays in this book? Of course, it would be a very different book if it weren't there, however, I am wondering if others like or dislike when an author goes into great detail about some activity you know almost nothing about and build a story around it? Do you love it, hate it, or does it just depend? How about with this book? Do you love, hate, or feel ambivalent about that part of the story and why?

Normally, one of my favorite things is to read a book where I learn a lot of details about something I have never known much about or done before, surrounded by a great story. An example of this is a mystery I read that revolved around glass-blowing. I read it over and over. It was a good mystery and I learned something. For me, as a vegetarian, I found myself strangely distressed to read about killing another creature as a sport. I say strangely because I have never had this kind of reluctance to read a book that described something that is otherwise largely socially accepted as a pass time.
I also like to educate myself by learning a new things in any field, as long as they are explained well for the newbies. You never now when this information might serve you. However, besides appreciating the informative aspects, I was amazed of the way the author used fly fishing as a metaphor for good advice. This sport means something different for each of the 5 women: women empowerment, relaxation, reconnecting with your family, facing your fears, or finding your way in life. Also, there are so many lessons explained by fly fishing that can be applied in real life. You can almost say that it is not about fly fishing.

I liked learning about a new sport and I also enjoyed the fishing puns and jokes , however, very thick fishing jargon at the starting few pages of the story was a bit boring for me.

The pace was a bit slow at some parts because of everything we had to learn first (about fly fishing), but it picked up right after Rose taught Melody how to fly fish. I enjoyed learning about fly fishing, even though I'm not likely to ever try it.

I think the sport of fly fishing is what connected the girls and it is what led to their getaways together.

It's always nice to learn something new while reading. I really enjoyed getting into this theme. This book captured a lot about friendship. Writing about a something quiet this different really made this book peculiar.

Honestly, I haven't heard about fly fishing. Funny enough when I saw it first I thought it was concerning air space. I am happy to lead what fly fishing entails and how it helped build the friendship of the three women.

I liked the fly fishing aspect of this book. It fit well with the friendship aspect. Both take patience and effort with the hopes of success, but sometimes you lose the fish and you have to try again.

It was a hobby that was always fun and brought new things to them and it was how they made a great new friend so I would say it came with a lot of fun
