When we experience a challenge or trouble, we question our worth. Why will this happen to me? Why do I have to deal with this? Why is everybody better than me? Why do I get victimized on? Those are the questions that do spiral through our minds the minute we are at a crucial moment in our lives. The writer of this novel unfolds his story of how he could get out of all he passed through as a survivor.

Don’t Mind Me, I’m Just Having a Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer is an account of the author’s story. Everyone has not appreciated or approved right from his childhood. Instead, he deals with insecurities, solitude, and depression. Denny, as he is called in the book, experienced depression, loneliness, emptiness, and insecurity from age four. He sought companionship, acknowledgment, and love from whoever was ready to grant him bare consideration. Growing up in an abusive home, his dad constantly talk down on him, hit him, and undervalued him. This played a heavy part in his self-confidence and esteem. Not only that, but his facial look too made him feel low about himself, as he had a tooth that did not align with the rest of his teeth. As he was maturing, he looked for any form of acceptance, even if it meant doing bad things.

Don’t Mind Me, I’m Just Having a Bad Life lived up to its title. The author did a good job writing each scene well. One will invariably think they are suffering an awful life until you listen to another’s story. I’m thankful for my own at this point. I can’t imagine going through all this with anyone at your side — no friends, no siblings, just you. After reading this, from my perspective, his parents are to be blamed for his beginning. His dad added to the predicaments by regularly shouting at him. It takes a little thing to bring down the self-esteem of people with weak personalities. The youngster was not welcomed in school and also not recognized at home. His mom really failed him. You can determine your partner, but the child doesn’t get to choose their father. After witnessing what her first husband, Denny’s biological father, did. She still remarried to someone with the same personality. She didn’t grow up in a happy home. She should have fought to change that fate for her son. But thank goodness, she finally got married to a nice man, but the damage has been done.

Countless parents today do not know their child is going through depression, anxiety, struggles, and loneliness, to mention a few. A child’s first friend should be the parents or the mother. I don’t blame Denny for the way he turned out to be. The foundation had been destroyed. There’s nothing that can be built on a faulty base. I admire how the writer wrote the story. I found it captivating from the initial page. The headings added made it very great.

There’s nothing I detest about this book, but the usage of profanities crossed my line of comfort. They were quite much. I love how the author has come forth with his story. It takes courage, though, to replay everything, you went through.

The editing was exceptional, and I couldn’t detect any errors while reading. I rate this 4 out of 4 stars. The novel is captivating. I hope the author’s found peace.

I’ll recommend this to people going through struggles who feel like ending all. Mr. Lewis’s survivor story would strengthen them because it’s a miracle he came out alive.

It's sad that the author went through so many issues from a young age. Mental health is something that should never be taken lightly. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
