This is such a hard-hitting story. It is so heartbreaking to even read the summary.
"If I had to find a fault in the book, I would highlight the author’s fondness for using parentheses and dashes in his writing. To my mind, these are often unnecessary and break up the flow and rhythm of his excellent prose." I find this annoying too when em dashes are used too many times. Great job with the review.

The Author's story is indeed a pathetic one. Atimes, we don't really know why things happen to us but God is still a faithful God. I love interesting books like this because they pave way for us to see the way life is. Thanks for the review, it was direct and beautiful.

Memoirs are deep dives into an individual's life. It's so sad that the author of this book had to go through the deaths of his wife and daughter over the same illness. I hope there would be a gleam of light in the dark for him thereafter. Thanks for the review!

A beautifully written review for a heartbreaking book. When I read the sample I teared up; It seems the author is giving his granddaughter a gift in getting to know her mother and grandmother, but to also know more of her grandfather before it is too late. I imagine there are plenty of people who would wish for a little insight into family lost.

It's quite tragic what happened to Rachael and Carys but hopefully Abigail gains the series of lessons and virtue intended to be passed to her from her dad through this book. Great review.

This is very interesting. I commend Rees for sharing his own story through this novel. I’m looking forward to digging into this book to read what the author wrote to his granddaughter Abigail. It seems to be a story of love and relationships which are relatable. It seems to be story of memories that brings wall to the heart. Congrats!

The author has suffered so much. First losing his wife to cancer, when she was only in her mid-forties and then losing his daughter to the same disease. I would like to read the book. Congratulations on BOTD!

It seems that him writing this book has helped him with some of his grief. It's sad that some people lose their loved ones one right after the other. It makes their grief even more unbearable. After reading the review, there isn't anything in it that would stop me from reading. Congrats on BOTD and thanks for the great review.

The sample pages revealed this touching story and the author's intent well. This book will be valuable not only to Abigail but to other readers who can share some of the same life events. Thank you for your excellent review and take on this book. Congrats on introducing the BOTD.

This is a sad story of how devastating ovarian cancer can be to young woman and their families. The author lost his wife Rachel when she was in her mid-40s and her daughter Carys when she was only 29. A disease that is hereditary and has taken many a loved one. I can understand the author's grief and wonder why God would let this happen to him. A hard book to read since it contains so much grief and sadness. Good review.

I'm not interested in biograpy. And I personally won't to read this book cause I found it too sad. I hope Abigail could get to know about her life and understand her condition. Is that mean she would have the same disease, right? That was an unfortunate life story. Thank you for an informative review.

Although I'm certain the book is touching, I tend to stay away from books that address grief as I cry easily. It's also a memoir, which is not my favorite genre. I think I'll be giving this one a pass. Thanks for the well-written review!
