My absolute favorite author is Christine Feehan. She has an amazing collection of paranormal fiction. My favorite series that she has put pen to paper on are:

Dark Series - Yay Vampires 8)
Sea Haven - Now I don't want to call the gals witches but they are awesome at what powers they possess

Christine just has a way of grabbing the reader in chapter one and keep them interested through the last page.

Ohhhh I totally agree with everyone who says its really not possible to choose 1. There are just too many favorites and a different one for different genre. Just a few of my fav authors :-
JK Rowling
Jeffrey Archer
Somerset Maugham
Henry Denker
Robert Ludlum

Ah I could just go on and on :)

Agatha Christie! I love her style, I love the mystery and I love old-fashioned settings

At the mo, I'm really into books by Karin Slaughter as they are fast paced & so far I have not been disappointed by any of the books I have read - they are a reliable & enjoyable read!

Below is a list of other authors I enjoy reading too:

Walter Moers
Ben Aaronovitch
Patrick Rothfuss

However, there are so many other authors, who I have yet to discover. Maybe like friends overtime, I will loose touch or fall out with the authors I like now and prefer to 'hang out' and enjoy the company of different authors instead!

For me, Chinua Achebe is my best vis a vis fiction. His mammoth way of using witty proverbial sayings to colour his narration is awesome.

Francis Scott Fitzgerald - Flowery Language and intelligent prose often mixed in the rush of past high society.

Cormac McCarthy - Dark subtext submerged in real, often violent scenarios. Wonderful vocabulary AT ALL TIMES.

Well, it would depend on what type of literature and what country of origin, but I would have to say that Charles Dickens, Voltaire, and Steinbeck are at the top of my list. That being said, I also like Tony Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, and Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Thanks for the question!

Goodness! I have so many! But off the top of my head and in no particular order,
Nora Roberts, Meg Cabot, Belle Aurora, and Janet Evanovich.

I would have to say that my favorite author is Orson Scott Card because his characters aren't complete idiots, well, at least not all of them. He has characters that have depth. They aren't just courageous, or they aren't just smart, or they aren't just loyal. He has characters that are only loyal to themselves, but then they develope loyalty to others by examining some fault in themselves that shows them that they may need to have the help/loyalty of others later on.

Right now I love Diane Mott Davidson. She is by far the best in the culinary murder mystery genre.

My favorite author is defiantly Simone Elkeles. When I first started reading her books she wasn't well known but her books are wonderful! I've been following her ever since and I'm so glad I stumbled onto her writing!

This greatly depends on my mood. I enjoy Katie Fforde and L.M. Montgomery when it is hot outside and I am feeling relaxed as their lighthearted prose allows me to escape further into a calm state. When it is cold outside and a little bleaker I find myself turning to authors such as Agatha Christie, Thomas Hardy and Laura Ingalls Wilder as the trials and tribulations of their characters seem to work well with the harshness of the season.

Although she is a teen writer, Tamora Pierce will always be my favorite. The characters she creates can be related to, while still staying in the magical fantasy world she creates. I have lost count the number of times that I have read all of her series, but they never get old.

I have so many that I look for in the book shops...

Cecelia Ahern was a childhood favourite but I'll happily still read her newer books.
Lesley Pearse
Nora Roberts

I think I need to start reading some more male authors works to get a good variety.
