Of course, an entrepreneur should retire at some point in his life. Though it might be later than those who aren't self-employed. The person should also plan for it like the book advised because one won't remain young and vigorous forever.

I think when self-employed, you have that flexibility of when to retire. The main reason why people retire is because of regulations put by governments and labor bureaus. If the self-employment trade is keeping one active in old age (which has a lot of health benefits, by the way, including longevity), I don't think one should retire.

Life itself can offer you an automatic rest when your old you can not work as used to work, less time of working can be enough for you to get some time to rest but not a retirement

I think it should be out of their own will. I've seen several liquidate their assets and find some beach house somewhere to rest.

Yes, I believe entrepreneurs should retire. It is just in their control to make the necessary arrangements inorder to do so.

Certainly a self employed individual deserves some time off.
Speaking on retirement, we all deserve to kick back and relax once in a while, enjoying the things life has to offer us. So retiring even as a self employed individual is advisable but only for senior citizens who are looking to stay off from active work. Even while in retirement, one should engage in passive and mental activities with a dabble here and there in sports and exercise, all to keep mind and body active!

I believe that at one point in someone's life, they are going to be satisfied with all their hard work and decide that it is time to relax and reap the fruit of their labor

Totally agree!!!! At some point in an entrepreneurs career they should be financially secured to retire. Your business should work for you after a certain period of time where retirement should be a choice. Every person entrepreneur or not should be able to retire.

The idea of retirement for an entrepreneur is a strange one as the business is his personal responsibility. However, he does not need to work endlessly like the typical employee as he can easily employ managers in his stead.

I believe the whole point of the book was to problematise the way we thought about "retirement". Therefore being a self-employed retiree or a mature entrepreneur are concepts that are wholly possible and seem more likely with the rising cost of contemporary living. Choosing to stop working is up to the individual, but so are all the financial responsibilities that accompany it. By this I mean, that where typically a company performs the necessary labour to ease the transition, in its stead the individual must know what retirement plans are available as they understandably want to slow down and enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Yes I agree. Work is still work, whether self employment or hired employment. Most entrepreneurs don't realize that they can't work forever.

That's the thing about entrepreneurship, it all depends on you. I think entrepreneurs also need to retire beacuse they can't keep on working for the rest of their lives and deserve to rest just like employed people. The only difference is that their retirement plan and funding is completely up to them. I feel like they even need to start planning their retirement program faster than that of employed people.

Well yes. Everyone should retire at some point in their career, especially when their much older and perhaps can't meet the physical demand that most competitive careers demand. But to actually answer your question indepthly, I think the point of the book for me is not that everyone should retire, but it's that everyone should have a side hustle even after retirement, like how most industry experts in their retirement choose to write books and share their experiences for extra retirement income.

I think that entrepreneurs should also be able to retire. Given the toil it takes to start and run a business, it should be possible to retire and maybe delegate duties.

Yeah. I think it's all about aging, and not being able to work with much energy as you did when still an active youngster. You have to leave the field for new fresh minds.
