Confidence goes a long way in determining how people treat you; it can enhance who you are. My Daddy Was A Bank Robber by Eddie Warke is a thrilling story about a band that stuck together despite their disability. The book is steeped in friendship, family, and love themes.

What started as a beautiful day for Jimmy as he prepared for his date with Julie Bennett turned out to be sour. The police apprehended him for a bank robbery he knew nothing about but had a piece of incriminating evidence with him. This incident and his action affected his life and generations to come. Years later, he married Julie, who stood by him, and they had a son whom they named Ray. Ray was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at age seven, leading to the gradual loss of his eyesight. Jimmy's absence in Ray's upbringing caused a strain on their relationship and made things difficult for Ray at some point in his life. What happens when the past haunts Ray, and he is forced to make a dangerous decision to save lives? Find out in this thrilling novel.

The author's language choice was simple and exciting. Every page kept me hooked on the storyline. The way the storyline focuses on several generations at once is splendid. Every character was distinct, and their roles were well established. That was evident when the author gave roles to the hostages at the bank. The book was realistic, and I pictured the actions taking place. For instance, every step the robbers took during the bank robbery represented what a typical robbery would look like in the real world. Several things were taking place at once, but there was no confusion.

The author's use of dates and locations to describe an event at the beginning of each chapter kept me abreast of what to expect. I derived delight from that. It also helped me to appreciate the author's skill in continuity. I loved the author's use of wordplay when Jeffrey and Ritchie were in Arnie's room. I fell in love with every character, but my favourite character is Joe. He was young, but his level of reasoning was exceptional. The situation he found himself in due to his dad's condition made him responsible and thoughtful. Despite his young age, he understood the meaning of commitment. The addition of lyrics in the book in several aspects to accentuate the profession of Ray and his friends was profound.

However, I found several grammatical errors. Although I enjoyed my reading process, the errors need to be examined. Therefore, I am rating this book 3 out of 4 stars because it was properly edited. Besides the errors, there is nothing more to dislike about this book.

I recommend this book to individuals who value the bond of family and what it means to have each other backs.

I don’t think enough people take the absence of a parental figure in the life of a child seriously enough. This seems to focus on the perceptions of what a child can achieve based on the actions of his/her/their parents.
