Cardinals by Ian Conner is an action/thriller novel. It tells the story of Asherah and her sojourn on earth after being cast down from heaven by God, her husband. The book has one hundred and seventy-eight pages spanning across twenty-eight chapters. It makes for a meaningful and engaging read. 

The story begins in Heaven, where Asherah is seen lamenting her fate while God is on a trip. She believes that God, her husband, is selfish and self-centered in his decisions and that his love for humanity is a weakness. Her thoughts of rebellion are further incited by Lucifer. When God returns, he finds her unworthy of ruling by his side, and casts her, together with the fifty angels who support her, to earth. 

While the angels arrive as rubies, she arrives as a creature of the night, a vampire, cursed to depend on the blood of the humans she so despises. She vows to take her revenge against her husband. To carry this out, she requires the amulet of Cassiel and the fifty rubies now known as the "Tears of Angels." She discovers a purpose; to gather all the rubies and summon the chariots of heaven. About three millenniums later, and after a lifetime of gathering foes, Asherah, now Seline, is closer to her goal, but there are those who stand in her way; different vampire factions borne out of hate for her, differences, and political/religious tussles. Will she get her revenge? Or is she way in over her head? Read on to find out.

I had a great time reading this book. The plot and the setting were unique and spectacular. It also had a lot of suspense and action. The story started out slowly, but the action picked up later on. This is not the first time I've read a vampire-based story, but I must say that the origin of the vampires portrayed in this book made absolute sense. We could see a cause and effect relationship in this book. It also had a biblical tone at the beginning, but later on, it could be seen that this was for a reason. Ian writes using the third-person narrative, which would give the readers a general overview of the events in the story as they unfold. The grammar used was relatively easy; I believe this would make for easy understanding.

The unnecessary descriptions of supporting characters in this book were something I didn't fancy. They resulted in the suppression of the main character. I believe these descriptions would have been better reserved for describing the different vampire factions, their origins, and how they came to disagree. That plot was just immersed in the story; it wasn't developed.

I give Ian Conner's Cardinals a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I encountered a few errors while reading it, which shows that it was professionally edited. I would recommend this book to readers interested in action thrillers, paranormal activity, and fantasy tales.

This book though a thriller has features I don't like in a book. I don't like reading vampire stories and the plotline of the story sounds preposterous to me. You also mentioned that it seemed the main characters were suppressed. This made it more of a no-no for me. Your review was honest and interesting.

I can't read this book. It is the antithesis of everything my religion upholds. This is like the story I read connecting God and Lucifer. However, this is nothing Christians should embrace.
