My favorite, of the top of my head, is JK Rowling, but that's because she's the only one I can think of now

Laurell K Hamilton because her books are just awesome. Her Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series was the first paranormal books I read and after I read 95% paranormal now. Her detail for character is awesome.

Nora Roberts is second favorite. I haven't read a book of her that I didn't like. Roberts writing as J.D. Robb is amazing!

Richelle Mead hands down! I would probably buy her grocery list just to read it because that's how much I love her books ;)

Pinpointing a singular author as a favorite is a tough one. Still, I could do a list. Roger Zelazny, of course, hits a the top. Followed rapidly by Michael Moorcock, T.A. Pratt, Patricia Briggs, Steven Erikson, and Seanan McGuire. Her take on Faerie is excellent.

Jane Austen will always be on my top list. I like the way Samantha Henderson writes. She makes twists & turns work brilliantly. Syrie James did a great job with Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen. Anne Fortier for Juliet, and Nicholas Sparks for no particular reason other than I enjoy his books.

The list is endless but I enjoy Alexander McCall Smith. Love his Corduroy Mansions and 44, Scotland series. They are filled with philosophy, debates and refined humor. Very pleasant indeed!

I doubt I could pick just one, so I'll go with my top three:

1. Jane Austen because she managed to create some amazing love stories that still cause girls to swoon!
2. Suzanne Collins because I couldn't put the Hunger Games down. Her writing style is so unique!
3. J.K. Rowling because as a third grader she could make me laugh out loud reading a book! Yes, there are other authors I read in my childhood that were amazing... But she definitely stuck!

My favorite author would be Sarah Dessen, because she writes the best YA books, by far (for me, anyway...)
