10 keys for a Great Essay by Graeme Mac goes straight to capture the reader's attention from the first page with a straightforward style. The author, Graeme Mac, wastes no time addressing the recurring mistakes of writers at different levels of their expertise. Mac offers ten guidelines that the reader would do well to refer to as "The Commandments" to be able to write in an evoking and compelling style. The author himself refers to these ten guidelines as "keys" and covers a broad range of students' errors at different levels of education.

What is remarkable about this book was that all this information was packed in less than one hundred pages. These keys range from understanding the question being asked to presenting written text. The keys also range from planning the essay to writing a great introduction. Graeme Mac, indeed, leaves no stone unturned.

He even goes ahead to help the audience with paraphrasing and proper editing of texts. The author uses analogies that are right on money and guides the reader on critical evaluation of texts and proper research procedures. I also found this enjoyable. Mac embellished the book with helpful glossaries and links to YouTube videos so readers could unlock better writing skills with the keys they have been handed.

The only problem I can find in 10 keys for a Great Essay is that I think the book misses an opportunity to appeal to a broader audience. Mac writes the book with students in mind. He refers to high school and tertiary students, but I think the reader should take the term more loosely as we are all students of life.

Therefore, every reader would find these keys very useful indeed, especially in developing our inductive and deductive reasoning to better decipher the truth in an age where we are constantly being bombarded with all kinds of information.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is professionally edited with a few errors and relates well with the reader, with no use of profanity of any sort. Also, there's no reference to sexual innuendos, and Mac does not divulge any religious persuasions he might have.

I recommend this book to individuals who generally seek to improve their communication skills and critical thinking skills, regardless of career or vocation. Indeed, the valuable tips will place the reader in the top percentile of the referenced "Pareto" distribution.

This book seems to be well-written and, even more important, useful, especially for those who are still in school or university. Thank you for the great review!
