What went wrong with The Multiverse of Madness?

Let's face it. We all came out of the theatre feeling a little underwhelmed. While the movie was in no way a disaster, we all expected much much more from it. I feel that the biggest reason for the letdown was the hype created after the No Way Home post-credit scene/trailer. The second reason was the underuse of our good Doctor while fighting against Wanda. It could have been a grander experience and instead felt like a rushed version of something magnanimous!

It immediately went wrong when they acted as though they couldn't even try to see if there was a universe where her kids were orphaned that she could go to.....

I think it was mediocre. The idea was good, and some of the characters were okay, with some good moments, but everything else is just terrible.
