I've read this book and enjoyed every moment of it. Galen has known nothing but war in his hometown, and Voulhire is this great and new beginning for him. It was easy to be as hopeful as he is. I also understood all the other characters in the book, and Lord Eldus was one of my favorite because of his compassion.

This is only the first chapter of a greater story but it shows how intriguing the big picture is, so I agree that it's a great series for fantasy readers and not only them. Thank you for your great review!

This fantasy novel has the best intriguing storyline that raises deep, satire questions. It's my favorite aspect of the book. I wonder how much is the line blurred between good and bad. As I grow older, I can relate to how grey the world really is and this book would be an amazing read for me. Congrats on the BOTD!

Although the review is great, telling us a lot about what to expect from this novel yet not revealing too much, the genre is not my cup of tea. I have enjoyed the sample, it shows that the writer has taken a lot of trouble to create a whole new world, with plausible characters.

I never knew that hope could be pricey, I just know that it's something that people have from the time of their birth to their death. I never knew what kind of outcomes that could come out from hope, maybe this book would open those results for me.

Thank you for the review!

Fantasy isn't my usual genre, but I'm going to try this one! I ❤ that the author included a map, not only so readers get a sense of where everything is located, but b/c it will also help w/visualization. I think today's BOTD is going to become a quick favorite of many! 💯🎉😊 Thanks so much for your helpful review! Great work! :-)

This book has several intriguing themes, including nationalism and opposition, set in the fantasy country Voulhire. I enjoy satire, so I appreciate a touch of this in the author's writing. I was definitely intrigued by the sample. Thanks for the great review!

I like how Matthew Tysz described the situation in his homeland through the words of the main character Galen Bray. I also like how the author introduced the readers to the complex situation in Voulhire and the equally complex characters.

Thank you for the detailed review! I found it to be well written and compelling. I agree with you that the best books draw you into their world, and one does get to know the characters intimately. I also enjoy when the story is unpredictable, and conflicts or unexpected twists occur. If I were a fan of the fantasy genre, I would be eager to read it. However, I will pass this on to my husband, who would enjoy it. Thanks again!

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting fantasy story about Galen Bray as he attempts to travel to a new land to take over his uncle's estate but meets his uncle's executioner. His new home is a land of supernatural abilities. Will he be able to properly take over his uncle's estate? It might be worth a second look. Well done.

The conditions in Voulhire are what I don't understand. There must be a lot to know about Voulhire. Congrats on BOTD!
