series " The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency

Post by suzy1124 »

Just finished " The no.1 Ladies' Detective Agency "... first in a series...( received two Booker Judges Special Recommendations, and voted one of the International Books of the Year by the Times Literary supplement )

a true delight!...... pure escapism to another country in a " seemingly " other time...Mma Ramotswe is a charachter never to be forgotten....from her " platonic " male friend, her daily redbush tea, her title of " the only lady private detective in Botswana "....... Author Alexander McCall Smith captures the " feeling " of Africa and the essence of this woman in a very straightforwardly simple and appealing writing style...........

Up until the very last page,on the last sentence a beautiful surprise brought a tear to my eye...

( don't you dare look, i'm watching you ! ) :) I saw that thread, until then i'd never realized that ppl do that

It was made into a movie and shown on HBO....... i just added it to my Netflix Queu...

Thank you L.C.!

Great reads - I think I've read about three of them & loved them all.
Actually suzy, you kinda remind me of the great lady herself, I get the feeling you share her attitude to life

Not as good as Mme Ramotswe but I have also been reading Isabel Dalhousie books by Alexander McCall Smith.
Right now I am reading Friends Lovers Chocolate. WIth a title like that how could I go wrong?

The BBC radio series of adaptations of this series is also very good, and it captures the warmth of the series.

I couldn't agree more! I think I've missed the last one or two. I need to get back into them. They really are delightful. That adjective fits the series perfectly.

This series in on my TBR pile, but after all these great reviews I think I need to move it up. I will also look into the Radio productions for my husband.
