The memoir Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream by Dr Frank L Douglas details the author's upbringing with his mother and four siblings, as well as his life and experiences. He describes the misery, suffering, and starvation his family experienced. This youngster is determined to improve his situation by doing well in school. He was awarded a scholarship to study in the United States as a result of his outstanding achievement. Additionally, the book describes the author's transition from a modest upbringing to his current position. Numerous difficulties he faced included racism, jealousy, enmity, denial, and others. What was his response to these difficulties? Was he successful despite these difficulties? Get a copy and find out.

I became engrossed in the book because of the author's tenacity and zeal. Because of his skin tone rather than his skills, his professionalism was questioned. Being well educated and still facing discrimination based on skin tone is disheartening. In my opinion, this novel is among my favorites so far. The things I took away from the book I can't even count. The author's persistence in the face of rejection, humiliation, and poverty is what I find most fascinating. The author outlines a few tactics that can help readers of any complexion to pursue their goals. The book was enjoyable from start to finish. I found it challenging to put the book down as I read about the author's numerous accomplishments.

My favorite chapters are the first four. It is almost impossible to imagine how the author managed to complete what he achieved in these chapters. I was unable to get up from my seat as I read these accomplishments. Sincerely, I had low expectations for the book, but after reading the final page of chapter 4, I began to see my unrealised potential. Before leaving, he begged his mother for a loan so he could sustain himself while in the country, but she refused. Instead of giving up, he worked even harder to get to the United States. I liked the author's strategies for dealing with rejection and other difficulties.

I don't have any dislikes for this book. The author has excellent sentence structure and innovative writing. The book is instructive and insightful. I discovered many things and learned things that cannot be described. The book is exceptionally edited, and I must commend the editor and author for finding no errors. I appreciate how the author used the complete names of the doctors, professors, colleagues, and students. It would be wise to adopt the author's method of solving problems.

Because it taught me better methods to handle rejections, denials, irritation, and other potential problems in life, I rate this instructive novel four out of four stars. I recommend this book to everyone going through a difficult time as well as memoir enthusiasts. They will undoubtedly find it extremely beneficial.

Your review is very interesting and well written. I do like the author’s resilience and determination. However, I’m not a fan of memoirs so I’ll pass on reading this.

This is a story of like white pap coming from a black pot. The author's experience simply means if we set our hearts at success, we will definitely reach it with obstacles in front of us.
You are yet to be the best version of yourself. Keep refining.

There are a lot of skilled professionals who are still segregated despite their skills due to the color of their skin. I would love to read about the struggles of the character in this book.
