Within first few chapters of reading this amazing book, we’re following these four wonderful women, getting sneak peeks into their history and what routes they took along the way to mold them into the women they are today. There were some life battles, lots of laughs and shared interest, and most importantly the loving friendship that just kept on growing between them. Going through the changes they’ve all experienced gave them better perspectives on life and it’s journey to better fulfillment. The accomplishments they’ve all achieved were well deserved and the pain they’ve experienced made them much more stronger than ever before. Yet, they still made the best of every situation, and it worked best in their favor.
They’ve experienced a few losses and managed to cope with them together. By working together and making sure to keep the communication lines open, they’ve created the perfect environment for what their future has available for them. Increased success and achievements were among many new experiences they’ve faced as they developed and improved into better people. This is what I enjoyed while reading this book, is that I’ve read with a sense that I was watching them become better, do better and live better. Gradual changes gave insight and a prospective to know that life doesn’t have all the greatest moments, but the moments you create may benefit for a better outcome for the future. These women have learned plenty from each other and now feel comfortable in the new lives they now lead, without regrets or complaints.
Barb created an interesting feature within this book, by introducing the readers to a short book written by an author that the women used frequently as references for their life decisions. Something that isn’t widely provided in many books, this allows Crooked Paths to stand out even more than just ordinary reading. It’s amazing how after each character exchanged some references from this author, that you’re actually able to read the same book all the characters have read, sort of like a double book feature. Now, having the feeling of not being left out while references are being made, has completed this reading experience and taken it to a whole other level of reading. This was a very well thought out plan on Barb’s part, and it added a heightened experience to this book.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4, because of Barb’s well thorough concept of this book. It not only gives readers the ability to see what other people’s lives are like, but how they handle their life lessons. I personally had the chance, wanting to be there for these characters while they experienced the need of deserved comfort. Some chapters make the reader feel like they’re onlookers and want to help cheer the characters up. There were some intense emotions throughout the book, that would have you laughing or feeling such awe for them. Overall, this was a fantastic read, and I hope many others would enjoy it as much as I have.
