It sounds like readers that enjoy character-driven novels will really enjoy Salty and Sylvia's story.

I was shocked by how this book begins "when Harold makes a fatal mistake, killing his wife" what did he do? This sounds like a great, unique novel marked by tragedy and new opportunities.

The past has a way of catching up with us. Salty had to face his, although he was still trying to evade it. I hope Sylvia and her father were able to find some closure. You have written an excellent review.

You penned this review like an author. I enjoyed your choice of words in your summary of this novel.
From the onset of the book, one can sense that the plot is laced with many social issues to include alcoholism and family discontents. These fictional pieces aren't my personal favorites but this review definitely has me intrigued. Congratulations to the author for being today's BoTD selection.

This is the most unique storyline that I have read in a long time. It's said that Sylvia no longer has her mother in her life, due to the actions of her father. I'm interested in this dynamic between the father and daughter and why the father decided to kill his wife.

"Discards" is a story that explores the relationship between a father and daughter, strained by tragedy and shame. Harold "Salty" Saltzmanous is the key character that makes a fatal mistake by killing his wife and leaving his 7-year-old daughter Sylvia, without a mother. He is quick to discard his former life and find a new place on the fringes of society. Fate does catch up with Salty starting with a strangely familiar dog and then Sylvia now a young woman who fifteen years ago, lost both of her parents in the same night. As the anniversary of their death approaches Salty and Sylvia are forced to confront their shared past and Sylvia wants closure. One needs to read the entire book to find out what happens to Salty and Sylvia. Good review.

In Discards, the characterization of Salty and Sylvia as a father who is on the run after killings his wife and the other his abandoned daughter, and it would be pretty interesting to know when they happen to meet and how they confront their shared past.

Most times, the mistake of the past comes back to hunt us one way or another. I hope Slyvia finds closure. The book has a lot of twists and questions that makes me curious enough to read the it. Congratulations on BOTD.

It’s a sensational plot and I would like to know how you can accidentally kill your wife and not take responsibility, that’s definitely something to be curious about.

This sounds like a sad and tense novel. I’m curious as to what exactly could bring Sylvia closure after essentially losing both parents in one night, one because he couldn’t forgive himself for the death of the other. I also wonder how both their lives have turned out and what finally brings them together to confront the issue between them. Thank you for the helpful review.

Wow what an interesting story. I just love suspense novels and this sure seems like it would be a page turner. I can't wait to see if Sylvia and Salty manage to rebuild their father/daughter relationship and if both of them get closure. Thanks for an insightful review.

Ok, we've been warned about that profanity.
Otherwise it sounds like a well paced story that would teach scoundrels how to evade justice if there's still any left.
Keeping in mind that it's fiction, I wouldn't recommend it for teen-agers who have a fetish to run away from home.

Thank you for the great review. I agree with you that the characters are written well. I don't understand how somehow can kill their wife accidentally. I believe I'll pass on this book. though, and let others that truly love this genre enjoy it.

I would love to know if Salty ever meets his daughter. Do they get to confront what he did in the past? Is she willing to forgive him? This book looks exciting from the review. It goes without question that it qualified for book of the day. Congratulations.

Such a brief and shocking synopsis. Looking forward to read how Salty's past catches up to him after dropping his dead wife in the dumpster.
