Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a biography centred around Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, who grew up in a town called Aïn Beïda in Algeria, at a time when the region was colonised by France. Growing up under the strict regulations of the French instilled anti-colonial beliefs and a sense of defiance into him. Upon his enrolment in a university in Bordeaux, he bore witness to the unjust acts done to his people. These events drove him to join the union's fight against racism in the system and the Algerian Revolution. As the cries for independence rose, Dr. Berrah's activities drove him into the spotlight. He went on to receive both a master's degree and a doctoral degree from Indiana University, USA, before teaching at Yale School of Medicine. His activities and influence led him to assist in Africa's growth at the behest of the President of Côte d'Ivoire, before eventually becoming his diplomatic advisor.
This book is a stunning description of the unfairness of racism and just how much the struggle for freedom demands. The author's views and beliefs create a different narrative about the possibility of the peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims, encouraging readers to have an open mind that's filled with acceptance. The author expertly analysed and discussed the various political issues present throughout the author's life and work. The book is peppered with footnotes, which provide extra information on some of the mentioned names and places in the book.
A lovely piece of the story was Dr. Berrah's love and dedication to his wife. Though they come from different cultures and religious beliefs, they made it work. The author also added pictures, providing readers with a visual aid. Dr. Berrah's journey from start to finish serves as an inspiration that will fill readers with awe.
With its error-free content, there was nothing for me to hate about this book. As a result of the vivid descriptions, the detailed analysis of political issues, and the messages the author incorporated into this biography, I believe this well-edited book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to fans of political history and political memoirs. Though long, this book is worth reading. It provides genuine insight and perspective on a piece of history and is told by one of its key players. The author did not include profanity or sexual acts in this book, as this could affect the impact of his message and the tale of his life's work.
