I think I will read this one. Historical fiction is an intriguing genre, and adding the coming of age angle should make this a good read. I do wish your review specified if there was a lot of mention of abuse and/or how descriptive it was. I'm going to read it anyway.

It sounds like an intense portrayal of a poor family. I'm wondering where the historical fiction part comes in.

I like Natalie's character and how the storyline built from each characters' point of view. I've read a book with similar writing style. From the book's cover I might think it is a non-fiction book. It couldn't tell what is the book about and did not catch my interest either. The review is very helpful to get me into this book.

An interesting historical fiction. Irma defends Nathalie? It's interesting to know that the narration feels realistic enough to make one wonder if it's part of the author's story. Thanks for sharing this review.

The sample was pretty good. I had some trouble following the review. However, the review was informative. Thank you for your time reviewing this book. Based on your review, I think I will put this one one the back burner.

Thanks for your honnest review. Despite the negative aspects mentioned here, the plot seems interesting. I wonder if Natalie's family will manage to get out of their difficulties.

This book deals with many themes we can relate to; all the ups and downs of a family. I hope Natalie can weather the storm and achieve her goal of becoming an art teacher. Your review was pleasantly insightful.

I find it positive that this story set in mid-1950s Australia captures the major social issues in that period. It tackles poverty, discrimination against Aboriginal people because of their skin, and farming practices. I think it's a bit strange that the whole story is written from the characters' point of view, but it seems interesting.

The social issues that prevailed in 1950s Australia sound strange but believable and brilliantly captured in this historical fiction. The characterization of Natalia as a gritty girl who stands against the odds in society seems in a fabulous form.

I like that the plot and characters are realistic and well-thought-out. The presence of excessive and unnecessary information is discouraging, though. Thanks for the insightful review!

Living under the leadership of a drunkard patriarch is obviously very stressful. I sympathize with the family. I'd like to read this book to see how things eventually turned out. This is a great review.
