Review of Smart Love
Love is an emotion that is powerful yet difficult to master. People should look out for the well-being of their relationships with others. A toxic relationship can negatively affect the mental and physical health of those involved in said relationship. Anyone new to forming a connection should know how others form such bonds so that he doesn't form an unhealthy one either. Smart Love by Vincent Fudge II is about a couple having a toxic relationship. They acknowledge it and collectively work toward making it a better one.
We follow the author's story in this book. It begins with him describing his current situation. The couple Edward and Ebony are not in the best phase of their relationship. They lack proper communication and argue over small things. Things got even worse after they had their first baby. They were not what we would call an ideal couple. This is when Edward decides to change things. He starts taking therapy and applies a SMART love strategy. Smart is an abbreviation. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. We follow Edward as he applies this technique and slowly brings his relationships back into place.
I loved the author's writing. This is one of those rare books that have good drama along with excellent writing. Reading this book makes the reader want to know what happens next in their relationship. The couple must overcome a lot of obstacles to stay together, but they do so with grace and decency. Even when they are at their lowest, they always look on the positive side of things. This made the story much more personal and enjoyable than other similar ones. The use of flashbacks is another positive aspect of this book. The author often states past scenarios during his narration. This adds more details and depth to their current situation.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. The author deserves more appreciation for his transparency. Both the author and his wife were portrayed cleverly. They are aware of their flaws and are trying to overcome them. Their agony and struggles were precisely described. Also, the SMART method of solving these disputes was given in detail. A lot of books give the layout for a said technique without going into its utilization. This book show's how the author used the given techniques in his life. The editing of this book was exceptional. I could not find a single error in it. For these reasons, I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
I can easily recommend this book to readers in their early stages of marriage. It can be most helpful to people who are not in the best phase of their relationship. The advice in this book is also helpful for newlyweds. This book contains profanity and discusses some sensitive topics like divorce and toxic relationships, so it is much suited for an adult audience.
