Review of Disasters To Dreams
Most people only share their moments of glory. It’s refreshing to find someone who spells out how much they’ve failed, how they overcame those failures, and how you can overcome yours too.
Disasters to Dreams by Chris Patrick is a self-help guide that draws upon the bumpy road Chris had to travel to get to where he is today. He has been fired multiple times, lost two businesses, divorced, and gone through countless other experiences that aren’t good. Chris needed something to help turn his life around when he hit rock bottom all those times. It turns out that the same failures that had him pinned down almost constantly contained the keys he would later need to face other challenges and still come out on top.
In this book, you will find well-written stories of Chris’s adversities and how he faced them, interviews with other entrepreneurs, and reflection sections to help you power through whatever obstacle is in your way. Chris tells his story first, follows it up with an interview or a friend’s experience, then ends the chapter with a reflection section.
The chapters are short and straight to the point. I liked how each chapter left you yearning to know what happened next. The interviews supplement this material well. They back up the approaches Chris suggests as they seem to have worked for other people too. There is also an element of humor in his tales which had me smiling.
My favorite part has to be the What About You (WAY) sections. They are reflection sections that come at the end of each chapter. Chris tells us a piece of his story then challenges us to think about our story using difficult questions that we might avoid asking ourselves. These questions also challenge us business-wise. I was intrigued by the questions that challenged me to think of business ideas with me as the ideal customer. The interviews are also eye-opening and blend well with his material. Each chapter starts with a quote, so if you love quotes, you’ll be in for treats. Finally, he has used catchy titles like “From Partying Ways To Parting Ways.”
I did not find anything to dislike in this book. I have to warn you that there is the use of a lot of profanity. If that does not sit well with you, skip this book. I commend the editorial team for the splendid work, as I could not find any error. I believe everyone would benefit from reading a part of this book or the whole for that matter. However, I strongly recommend it to people who see life has dealt them a bad hand, people trying to rebuild themselves, those in need of inspiration, and entrepreneurs who would like to know where to start after facing many failures.
I rate Disasters to Dreams 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading it and I learnt a lot too. I urge you to grab your copy today. It might be just what you need to read this very moment.
