Traumatic events are a very faith shaking factor, depending on the magnitude of the event. It is rather understandable for one to lose their such an event

Faith is a feeling. It is being confident that something is going to happen. Faith in God is having confidence in God and believing that God is going to answer your prayers. Most people often lose Faith in God after a traumatic experience, because they feel disappointed.

I think it happens a lot more than most people are willing to admit. I don't think it always happens all at once. I feel like a lot of the time it happens slowly and over time.

In my opinion, I believe those who lose their faith after a traumatic experience do so because they have known God to be all good and can't comprehend why he should take their loved ones away from them or make them go through such traumatic experiences.

However, why many got excited because of Tripodo's faith is because, he stood firm with his faith during the cause of his experience which on a norm, average Christians would lose their faith. So, for him to still retain his faith after such an experience is worth commending.

When a friend of mine lost her young husband two years ago to cancer, I almost lost my faith in God. I asked several questions that beckoned for answers.
To my greatest surprise, however, my friend told me her faith in God had risen, knowing that God rested her husband and saved him from the excruciating pains and sufferings associated with cancer and other challenges. And she believes her husband is happy wherever he is.
She also said that we're all gonna die someday, but what matters most is where we're going and what legacy we left on earth.
I was speechless, but it helped my faith to grow exponentially and I'm happy she's doing well for herself and the kids.
So yes, someone's faith in God can increase even after losing a loved one.

From my point of view it is more common to lose faith, or only after an event that we can consider traumatic, it also happens in any situation that under the subjective point of view is negative.

The constant questioning of why each thing happens is greater than accepting and trying to understand what happens.

I think faith can be a very delicate thing. When you’re not set in your faith it’s almost as if you’re looking for reasons to think ‘oh, well if God were real why would He take this from me?’
So I believe it’s very dependent on the person’s relationship with Christianity and how much they’re willing to trust in it.

This can go one of three ways (not cut and dried, of course) - you lose your faith, it grows even stronger, or it remains more or less unchanged. In my opinion, this largely has to do with the manner of death. Was it expected, as in a drawn-out illness? Was it sudden and unexpected, like a car accident? Would it be considered 'unfair' (as in someone close to you dying of cancer even after a hopeful diagnosis)? In my experience, it is more likely that the individual would lose faith, given the latter two examples. One of the stages of grief is anger. Who better to blame than God? After all, he is supposed to be the one controlling everything. Tripodi's faith was exceptional because he did not give in to grief or anger, as many Christian individuals would.
Books are my self-medication. 8)

I understand your point given the fact that you are an atheist. In Christendom, fervent Christians lose faith after brutal ordeal in their lives. Enduring faith that last the test of time is rare, this comfirms that Ron's faith shouldn't be commonized; so its inspiring, and we can tap from his grace.

When bad things happen to people, they usually lose control of themselves. Especially when someone close to them passes away. They often wonder why God took them away from them. They mostly believe that God abandoned them at that time. And it's obvious that when they're angry at God, they gradually lose faith in him.

I think that Christians who have lost their faith when a loved one dies are those who are desperate in saving their loved one that they changed their view of how God really works. So, I think it's inspiring when I read about someone understanding the bigger picture of God's plans. It takes a lot of reflection and strength.

I think this question dimisses the fact that it takes a lot to remain strong and not get broken in bad times. It really is not as easy as you put it.

Even as an unbeliever, I still know it takes a lot to hold unto faith in situations like this. It takes a really strong mind.

I do think that a lot of people lose their faith after a traumatic incident. Well, to me it depends on the kind of experience one may face because even when people lose their faith I don't think they open up, as I think that is another problem on its own
