The book Reconfigurement is written by E. Alan Fleischauer and emphasizes planning for retirement at any point in one’s life. The author has vast experience in the financial sector. As an advisor on retirement planning, he observed that most people often neglected planning for their retirement, particularly the financial aspect. Through this book, Alan tries to make his readers realize that with generally longer lifespans now, one must have a solid strategy to cope with the challenges that retirement is going to bring. He has educated the readers so that they act responsibly and plan. The author has given the readers some precise guidelines and smart financial strategies to devise their retirement plans.

The author’s optimistic and genuine approach is reflected in his writing. Talking about his fellows who term aging and retirement as a ‘late life crisis’, Alan gives retirement a new meaning by terming it as a ‘turning point’ for realizing one’s dreams and aspirations. He encourages his readers to take career assessment tests, identify their calling and pursue a suitable career on that basis or pursue it as a side hustle. He also encourages readers to continue pursuing one’s passion post-retirement. The links to self-assessment tests mentioned are truly a value-added feature of the book and provide an opportunity for self-discovery.

The style of writing is such that it seems that the author is in a one-on-one conversation with his reader, discussing facts and aspects, and answering queries that he might come up with. The book is pretty straightforward and precise, yet covers all essential elements. The author has explained financial terms in layman’s language and also removed some misconceptions. Quips, jokes, and anecdotes in various places were like the icing on the cake and kept the book engaging.

The thorough research and up-to-date knowledge of the author intrigued me. Putting his experience to good use, Alan discusses all options, conditions of application, and weighs the pros and cons of all options on investment, social security, life protection, employee benefits, and life insurance with his readers so that they can make informed decisions and maximize benefit. He has also backed up his claims with appropriate research, facts, figures, and statistics so that the readers can make wise and profitable decisions regarding their hard-earned funds.

Overall, the book is an informative and intriguing read. It is professionally edited with negligible errors and absolutely no profanity. I only wished that the author had named the chapters instead of numbering them to facilitate future reference. I would happily rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.

Although the author recommends the book to a slightly mature audience of forty-plus, I would also recommend it to everyone who is about to start his career, those who want to switch careers, and those who are seeking guidance on planning their future.
