Like my head teacher used to say, ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail.’ Alan Fleischauer in the book Reconfigurement gave comprehensive tips on how and what people need to prepare for retirement while they are still working. Briefly, the book teaches about planning ahead, working at a job you love. It also covers career testing, investing and saving. The author simply indicates that the reconfigurement of financial planning is about reconfiguring one’s life at any stage and planning. The book was presented from a financial professional point of view. Every chapter of this book comprises retirement and investment plans that can help readers to prepare for a better life after retirement.
As a young man who just started his first job. I liked that the author emphasizes a well-structured retirement plan and teaches useful strategies and professional experiences that the author used when explaining the topics of this book. The author designed this book to help people foresee and prepare for their future after retirement. The book provides valid solutions on how retirees can avoid depression and poverty after they retire. Furthermore, the author’s writing style was conversational. He used a friendly tone and jokes to keep the readers’ attention. This helped to make the book more enjoyable for readers. Another positive aspect is that; the book did not talk about working people only but also included entrepreneurs. The book also teaches entrepreneurs how they can plan ahead from the income they get through businesses.
The only thing I did not like about this book is that, most of the information and examples only targeted American readers. Retirement happens all over the world, therefore I would like the author to consider targeting a worldwide range of audiences. The book can also be of most significance to third-world countries as most elder people face poverty after retirement.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was professionally written and edited. I like the author’s strategy of using a friendly positive tone and jokes to capture and keep the reader’s attention. I also loved how the author added websites for readers to find further information on topics discussed in the book.
I recommend Reconfigurement to young and old people looking for a better life after retirement. I highly recommend this book to people in their 20s as they have more time to prepare for retirement since some retirement plans require time to build. People who are close to retirement will also benefit from this book. Alan Fleischauer highlighted that it is too late for people to start retirement plans in their 40s and 50s.
