Mr. Miller was transferred to Kenya on a mission by the Episcopal Church, and his wife, Mrs. Miller, decided to travel with him to the African country. Their kids, Donny and Mary Grace, had to relocate to California to live with their grandparents. Mary Grace was mad at her parents for taking such a sensitive decision without consulting her and Donny, especially as Donny is a boy with Down syndrome. However, they made her understand how important the mission is and how much it means to the African country.

When the kids got to California, their grandparents enrolled them at the North Elementary School, where Mary Grace met Penelope Li, her classmate, and new friend. Some of her classmates weren't happy that Mary Grace and Penelope were getting along so fast. They dropped a series of notes inside Mary Grace's desk. What is the content of these notes? Who put those notes inside her desk? Was Mary Grace able to unravel the mysteries around the notes? The answers to these questions are in the book Donny and Mary Grace's Adventure by Catherine A. Pepe.

The first thing I like about this book is how the author was able to pen down her experience in such a fictionalized story. I found it very fascinating and clinical. Also, readers of this book would learn good morals like respect, empathy, and tolerance, to mention a few. For example, the author wrote: 'You were the smart little boy who taught me how to make penguin cones, yes that is me, do you remember how to make them? Because I want one right now, Donny said. You mean you want one, please, Mrs. Miller said.'

I enjoy Mary Grace's character. Despite the situation she and her younger brother, Donny faced in their new school, she placed her brother's well-being over hers and showed empathy to others even when they planned to hurt her.

I happily rate Donny and Mary Grace's Adventure by Catherine A. Pepe a four out of four stars for perfect characterization and a captivating storyline. Additionally, the book is professionally edited, as I encountered a single error throughout my reading.

I recommend the book Donny and Mary Grace's Adventure by Catherine A. Pepe to children's readers, especially those that appreciate solving mysteries. Also, readers with siblings who have disabilities would find this book interesting as it teaches love and empathy.

I also read the book and your review captures the essential elements of the book. The situation at the new school will echo with so many kids out there. Great job.

I agree with Mary Grace, such a sensitive decision needs their opinions as well. I look forward to reading this book, I'd like to know how the siblings adapt to their new environment. Interesting review.

Donny is such an amazing boy with so much intelligence. In spite of his mental state, he still expresses undiluted with the ability to learn. I like this book and also enjoyed your review!

The author beautifully portrays Donny's exuberant personality through his endearing habit of embracing and high-fiving not only his family but also strangers. One particular heartwarming moment nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes. It was when Donny, engrossed in reading his favorite book on the plane, inspired others to join him in the literary adventure. As they disembarked, they couldn't resist sharing a celebratory high-five with him. Great review 👍
