So, I started this one last week, but I wasn’t able to get into the story. Not sure why, but I felt like I was forcing myself to read the book rather just wanting to read to enjoy. :/

That’d be great! If you end up reading one or the other (or both!), I would love to hear your thoughts!Leonie Vermaak wrote: ↑13 Oct 2022, 22:21 Ooohhh this sounds like fun. I'll definitely try both the mentioned books. Nothing better that a horror or spooky story

Hi!Daniel Decenzo wrote: ↑12 Dec 2022, 00:13 Anyone have any suggestions for a new horror read??? I've read all of Stephen King and Joe Hill books. A few Clive Barker, Anne Rice, and Dean Koontz (Even though Koontz never really captured me like King or Hill, I only really enjoyed the "Odd Thomas" series, because it was funny, not spooky). I'm looking for something that will really creep me out or spook me. Please, any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks book club!!

I don't read many horror-based books. I get spooked way too easily.

Maybe @Gravy has some suggestions?

I can certainly try.Daniel Decenzo wrote: ↑12 Dec 2022, 00:13 Anyone have any suggestions for a new horror read??? I've read all of Stephen King and Joe Hill books. If you like creature horror, Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is basically mermaids by way of highly evolved leech like creatures, who also kill. A lot.
If zombies are your thing, the same author's Newsflesh trilogy is kind of politics and reporting while living with zombies. This one kicked my butt, emotionally, but is also validly scary. First book is Feed.
Honestly, anything by this author is good. She even has some novellas you can get via Kindle fairly cheap, so it's not a huge commitment to just see if you enjoy her writing.
T. Kingfisher is just creepy. Very horror-via-folklore and yes that thing is watching you.
Try The Twisted Ones.
Have you read Bird Box?
I honestly can't speak to how actually scary any of these are, as I seem to be largely scare resistant (lol) but I've read and enjoyed all of these authors, and heard that, for people who routinely read horror, they're considered fairly scary (if that's your goal).
If you have any other criteria (no creature type horror, or you prefer a particular sub-genre) I can try again.

What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.
