After the death of magician Borlock, Delvin inherited all his magic equipment, including a magic stone. This stone allowed Delvin to influence other people’s thoughts and communicate with other magicians. In this second book, Delvin is back fighting for his friends again. This time, the magicians have decided to take over two powerful cities, Argent and Hengel. With Princess Jarla’s life at risk, it’s up to Delvin to use his magic stone to bring back peace in the cities. If you are looking for a book to take you on an adventure, then The Three Card Trick by Charles Townsend is the book you have to read.

Having read and reviewed the first book, I was beyond excited when I received the opportunity to read the second one. Since I thought the first book was amazing, I had high hopes going into this one. I can happily say that this book lived up to my expectations. There was action, it was adventurous, and honestly, I had a great time reading it.

It was nice to learn more about the characters I fell in love with in book 1. One of my dislikes for book 1 was that I felt like the characters’ physical traits were not described well, making it difficult to picture the characters. I am pleased to say that the second book has delivered a perfect description of each character. The story gripped me from the start, and I found myself unable to stop reading. I enjoyed the new adventure Delvin and his friends had to take. In particular, my favourite parts of the story were the times when Delvin performed his magic tricks.

Whilst there were familiar faces from book 1, I liked that Townsend introduced a number of new characters. In particular, I loved Nippy because he was always willing to help others, even if it put his life at risk. Whilst he seemed like a side character at first, I enjoyed seeing his character develop into a more important role. There is nothing that I disliked about this book. Everything was perfect in my opinion. Even though this book is the second in the series, it can be read on its own.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of the points I mentioned above. I only found 4 mistakes, so the book is professionally edited. Just like the first book, there are violent scenes in this one, so read at your own risk. I recommend this book to young adults who enjoy reading books about magic and adventure.

I haven’t read the first book yet, but I fully intend to. I am glad that Delvin apparently got over his disillusion with magic andI am impressed that the author fixed some of the problems that existed with the first book.

The three card trick would sure lead readers on a wild adventure. I'm excited to find out how Delvin would use his magic to bring back peace in the cities and also how Princess Jarla's life would be secured.

I am not too keen on adventure books with magic and stuff, but your review of this particular series intrigued me. I may pick up the series later. Congratulations on a great review.

Your review made me interested in checking out the first book. It's good to know not to expect much physical descriptors until the second book. This sounds like a series that could develop into several more books.

The first book gave me the impression of being engaging with its fantasy setting and the murder mystery element and this sequel offer more positive feelings about it. Despite my reservations due to feeling old for this type of story, I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!

I’m glad you specified that it could be read on its own. That’s my biggest concern starting a book that isn’t the first in a series. This sounds like a thrilling tale.

It’s lovely to see another magical book featuring Delvin and Jarla. This is an excellent book for a young teen, with similarities to The Lord of the Rings, in its other worldly feeling.

I too have read 1st book and characters Devlin and Princess Jarla made me to checkout their journey in next installment. By looking at your review, I feel 2nd book also captured reader's mind with good narration and characters. Definitely i will read 2nd installment to know more about them and their adventures life.

This book continues the adventure from the first book in the series, with Delvin and his friends going on a new quest filled with action, magic tricks, and fantastical elements. While there are familiar characters, new ones like Nippy are also introduced and developed.
