There’s something about the mask that speaks to Travis. From the moment he sees it at a yard sale, he knows he needs to have it. It feels like the mask is calling to him. Maybe finding the mask is a sign of good things to come. Maybe it will help him fix things with his wife, Alyssa. All of his hopes begin to disappear once he takes the mask home. It feels like he is being watched. A mysterious shadow begins following him and Alyssa. There’s a sinister presence in their house, and Travis knows it is coming from the mask. Can Travis uncover the mask’s secrets and stop the evil before it’s too late?

The Shadow After Sunset is a chilling supernatural mystery novel by Aaron Baker. The book follows Travis and Alyssa as they fight to save their relationship and themselves from the forces bent on destroying them.

This book was excellent. One of my favorite things about this book was the creepy atmosphere that Baker created. I loved the way the tension built over time. I also enjoyed the plot of the story. The mask had me intrigued from the start. Like Travis, I was curious to discover the story behind it and enjoyed following him on his quest for answers. As the situation became more complicated, I began to wonder how the author would end the story. My biggest complaint about stories with supernatural elements is that they often have endings that feel anticlimactic. That wasn’t the case with this book. Baker didn’t wave a magic wand and bring this complex plot to a simplistic end. The ending was well thought out and resolved the story in a satisfying and shocking way.

Another aspect of the story that I enjoyed was the characters. This book was only 147 pages long. Given the short length, I expected an interesting plot but not much else. I was pleasantly surprised by how developed and real the characters seemed. It’s clear from the beginning that Travis and Alyssa have problems in their marriage. However, rather than stating everything that happened between them up front, the reader is fed bits and pieces of their history over time. I liked this approach as it added another layer of mystery to the story. I also liked the character’s journal entries that were sprinkled throughout the book. It allowed the reader to know what the characters were feeling and provided insight into things that they refused to share with each other.

I have nothing negative to say about this book. It was well written and professionally edited. The plot was captivating, and the characters were excellent. The story was so chilling that I could only read it in broad daylight. Therefore, I am happy to give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy mystery and horror novels with supernatural elements. If you’re looking for a story that will leave you wanting to sleep with the lights on, I think you will enjoy this book.

A spooky story. Love the title and I don't known if the shadow is there or is it darkness. Mask reminds me of the movie The Mask. I guess I'll read it. Thank you for an excellent review, it sums up important elements which readers might want or can expect from the book.
