"In the Year of the Rabbit" by Terence A. Harkin is a historical fiction book set during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. The main character is the cameraman and while he believes some wars are justified like WWII, he has moral reservations about bloodshed in Vietnam. As time went on the cameraman is losing loved ones and starts to question the purpose of the Vietnam War. How does bombing North Vietnam and Laos help make South Vietnam democratic? Having grown up during the Vietnam War and without a student deferment I would have been drafted and sent to Vietnam so this story really hits home. The trauma the cameraman goes through in Vietnam make him want to become a Buddhist monk. A book I am putting on my Want to read shelf. Very good review.

Historical fiction set during the Vietnam war that follows a soldier who wants to become a Budhist monk sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing how the author portrays the intricacies of war. Congratulations on BOTD.

Historical fiction lovers will enjoy reading this book. However, I'll pass on it because it's not my forte. Great review though.

The follow-up to The Big Buddha Bicycle Race, In The Year of the Rabbit, which is a tale of forgiveness and healing, pays tribute to three groups that are absent from chronicles of the Vietnam War. Discover the love-hate alliance that the conflict has created between Brendan Leary, a pacifist combat video grapher, and Harley Baker, a warrior door gunner. See what this book has to offer.

I’m not too big on war fiction and historical fiction set during the Vietnam War, but they can be interesting, such as The Things They Carried. This book sounds as though it could be interesting as well, especially with the main character being someone who really questions the purpose of the war after losing people to it. Thank you for the helpful review.

Congrats on BOTD. It seems this historical novel will show us a soldier's psychological progress during the Vietnam War.

In The Year of Rabbit? This title is so abstract from the summary of the book. I would like to know how the cameraman's feelings about war concern rabbits. Interesting! Good review.

This book seem to state the psychological effects of war on people, especially the Vietbam war. I do agree with the camera man that war isn't always the answer to political differences. Great review.

Ok. This sounds like a book that seeks to talk to our conscience and reason through its storyline. What is war good for? Thanks for the detailed review and recommendation. Congratulations BOTD!

I don't know why he wants to become a Buddhist monk, that's why i want to read this book. Recently I've been interested in reading about vets and I'm getting good at it. I want to know what the protagonist in this book thinks and what he has against the war. This is yet another book to add to war stories. Congratulations on BOTD!
