Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
There are many cases of Down syndrome these days, and most parents don't know what to do or how to provide a safe environment for their children. Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a children's book with 17 chapters and 151 pages. This children's book is from the story of the author's family life and her brother, who had Down syndrome. Donny and Mary Grace had a positive and fun way of living, and their lives always impacted the lives of those around them.
Because of his case of Down syndrome, Donny Miller is a five-year-old boy with a sister, Mary Grace Miller, a ten-year-old girl who has his back and protects him from any harm and bullies. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, live in Wichita because Mr. Miller is a Wichita priest. Mr. and Mrs. Miller are sent to Kenya to aid the people there for two years due to some crisis in Kenya. They concluded that Donny and Mary Grace would be sent to California to stay with their grandparents. Mary Grace refuses because she doesn't want to be apart from them and believes she wouldn't enjoy her time in California. Read the book to see the adventures that await Mary Grace.
I liked the personality of Don, who didn't let anything get to him. He was always happy and smiling, and his positivity was contagious. His mantra of every day being the best day of his life was heartwarming. I enjoyed the way everyone treated Donny nicely and enjoyed his company. Those who didn't and tried to bully him were fended off by his protective sister, which I found courageous.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. It was inspiring and had a good plot. It has an excellent text style and is very expressive.
The book is exceptionally well-edited and has no errors. The book leaves subtle messages that are educative for children. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, and I believe it deserves this rating.
I recommend this book to young readers since it exhibits many admirable traits. Additionally, it covers bullying and offers advice for victims of bullying. Because it outlines the particular care people with Down syndrome need, I would also suggest it to parents and readers who are familiar with or have come across people with the condition.
