Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Mathew Tysz is a fantastic book that takes us through the story of a young man, Galen Bray, who was sent on a mission in Magnum Caelum. His great uncle, Galen Onita, was one of the greatest blacksmiths in Voulhire and owned a forge. He was dying, and he needed an heir to his businesses. Before dying, Onita appointed Rowan as an executor to guide and take Galen through everything he needed to know. Galen traveled from the Lands of the Princes to inherit his great uncle's Onita Steel Business in Voulhire. Onita left his businesses for Galen to succeed to serve as redemption to his family for his failures and for never mending them until the hour of his death. Was Galen successful in his mission? When Galen arrived in Voulhire, so many strange things were happening. Were Galen's dreams affected by the strange happenings? Besides Galen's story, the book explores different parts of Voulhire and its kings.
I like this book for several reasons. Firstly, I liked that the author included a map of Voulhire, which helps readers identify, learn and understand the different parts of Voulhire mentioned in the book. Secondly, I liked the character Meldorath and how he contributed largely to the book's plot. He was feared and perceived as a bad person. This gave me the urge to read on and find out why he was feared and if the mystery of the magic he left behind was unraveled. Last but not least, I liked how the author gave the stories of each of the characters and blended them all into one to make a perfect book.
There's no reason why I detested this book because I enjoyed every bit of it. However, I have two suggestions. First, I felt the author could have included a table of content that would direct and prepare the readers on what to expect from the book. Second, the book would be more appealing if the author used actual titles instead of the character's name to indicate the beginning of a new chapter.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars or 5 out of 5 stars because why not? The characters were well-developed, the book had an incredible plot that flowed perfectly, and the writing style used was unique and perfect for the book. Also, the book had great themes, which included business, family, and friendship. One last thing that moved me to tears was the letter that Galen's great-uncle left him before dying. I, therefore, had no reason to deduct a single star from the book.
This book is suitable for readers who love science fiction and fantasy books.
