Review of Reconfigurement
[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
We all start life with so much energy and many dreams. We get to work and earn, and for a while, that time seems like it's never-ending. But that is sadly not the truth. Accidents happen, and old age comes like a thief at night. E. Alan Fleischauer, in his book Reconfigurement , discusses the when, what, why, and how of retirement planning. When is the right time to retire? And what should we do when we finally retire? Reconfigurement debunks and challenges the old number-based retirement planning methods attempting to revolutionize retirement planning.
The first chapter is full of potential knowledge. The author enlightens us on the increase in life expectancy and how this increase in life expectancy should impact the ways we work, invest, and plan. The author insists that, because of a longer life, we need to adjust our retirement plans to reflect this. Retirement plans should be more than just asset-oriented and accommodate other relevant aspects of the 21st century. Even better, the author goes the extra mile to show us how to do this from the second to the thirteenth chapters.
The author insists that retirement planning is something we should start now. With facts creatively expressed, he enlightens us on crucial matters in retirement planning, such as budgeting, career assessment, income protection, and which insurance plans are best for you. Wow, the author even explains which disability plans have tax-free benefits.
As a young adult, I enjoyed how E. Alan explains the importance of career assessment in the book. Most people are unhappy with what they do. Taking a career assessment can help fix that. E. Alan doesn't end up discussing the meaning of a career assessment, the categories of career assessments, and why you should have one. But he spoon-feeds the reader with links to each type of assessment. I paused and tried each assessment. It was a rewarding experience.
I appreciate how the author refers to online tools that readers can use easily. Doing so adds value to the knowledge and offers the possibility for readers to put into practice the knowledge gained instantly. What I like most about this book is that the information shared inside is well-researched and based on experience. It is information you can trust.
I found the book engaging. E. Alan Fleischauer engages his readers by using features like questions and jokes. This tactic creates the impression that each reader is having a one-on-one conversation with the author. Talking about retirement can be tedious and scary. E. Alan has successfully made it an easy, fun, and engaging subject. You will not regret reading this book.
This book did not disappoint me, from its language to its editing, its style, to the message it conveys. I enjoyed reading this book. I recommend making it a habit to get back to this book at least once a year, if possible.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 because of how well it expresses relevant financial knowledge that will impact the lives of its readers.
Anyone seeking employment, employed/self-employed, seeking financial freedom and a more fulfilled life, and seeking financial literacy should read this book. The language used in this book is simple and clean, making it safe for anyone to read.

I know I should read this book, but although my body gets older every year, my mind still thinks I am 25. So, finding the motivation has proven to be a difficult task. However, I like the author’s fresh approach to the topic and his conversational style. Maybe I’ll end up reading this every year just as you recommended. That is, if I ever tackle the first round!
