Review of Worldmaker of Yand - Eltanin
Worldmaker Of Yand-Eltanin by Andri E. Elia is the third installment in the Worldmaker Series. It follows Yanara, a worldmaker in Tuncay, where she was in a forced but self-induced exile because she and her daughter, Asimia, nullified each other's powers. When Yanara and her son, Wolfpack, encounter a strange girl who recognizes both of them and identifies Wolfpack as the pathfinder, they become perplexed. Their confusion takes an upturn when she disappears, with Wolfpack being unable to trace her whereabouts. This strange occurrence thrusts the entire family into a war that threatens the lives of their children, grandchildren, and even their world. Will Yanara and Wolfpack find this strange but beautiful girl? Is Frost, her husband, the father of this girl who eerily bears some resemblance to him?
As I formerly stated, this book is the third installment in the series, and even though this book contains various references to past events in the other two installments, the author adequately explains beforehand everything the reader needs to know. This is one of the positive aspects of the book. In a sort of prologue, the author journals the events which took place in parts one and two of the series, which play a part in this third installment to keep the reader up to speed.
Because this is a science fiction book that tells the tale of various species and galaxies, there are many words used here which are fairly alien to the reader. One would think this would hamper understanding of the book. This is not the case since Elia provided explanations for various strange words which she used in telling this story. The interpretations help a great deal with the reader accurately following the story as it develops. This is one good aspect of the story.
One thing I disliked about this story is that at some points in the book, one may get lost in what is going on and have to go back a few pages to catch on again. This is due to the various time traveling going on in the book and the numerous dialogues and arguments which occur and sometimes occur simultaneously. Furthermore, telepathic speaking can bring about a bit of confusion while reading the book. This is one of the negative aspects of the book, as it effectively slows down the reader's enjoyment of this book.
While reading this book, I did not encounter any errors, which leads me to believe that this book has been proofread by an individual with a profound understanding of the English language. Furthermore, there are strong violent scenes in this book, which clearly show that the intended audience of this book does not include people who do not appreciate this.
I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Despite the aforementioned negative aspects, I still rated this book highly because even though it slows down the enjoyment of the book, it doesn't prevent one from enjoying this well-written work. I would recommend this book to all lovers of science fiction and fantasy.
