Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an epic fantasy novel that combines elements of fantasy and action. The fascinating magical realm of Voulhire is introduced to us in this novel. The narrative starts with Galen, the main character. Galen is a young man who aspires to succeed in life. In order to claim his fortune, he traveled to a place named Magnum Caelum to meet his grand uncle.
We hear the tale of the Emperor of Lullabies while Galen was on the boat. The Emperor, who had four sons, sent each of his sons to a different island out of fear that one day they would conquer him and seize his throne. When Galen reaches Magnum Caelum, he signs the necessary documents to claim the fortune. But when he arrived at his great uncle's house, he learned that his uncle had passed away and that he had inherited all of his wealth. Later in the narrative, Wilhelm, the king of Voulhire, is introduced to us. During his reign, Wilhelm worked to secure the welfare of his people and to shield them from the evil past that he believed was still present. The novel also introduces us to the great kingdom of Voulhire, which is on the verge of a golden age and has many characteristics in common with our own world—wealth, culture, and technology—in a time of rapid change.
There are some positive aspects to this book. The idea is brilliant and unique. Impressive writing is used by the author. I found it particularly pleasing how the author managed to use similes, metaphors, and adjectives. I really liked how magic was explained and given its own realm. I particularly liked how the book's fight scenes were described by the author. I really adored the diverse personalities of the various characters that were presented, as well as how well they got along and complemented one another. How the author structured the chapters was another feature I enjoyed. The chapters are kept brief and each one has a title that identifies the subject of the narration.
While reading this book, I had fun. I find a lot of things about it to be negative. The character descriptions were inadequate to begin with. Many of the characters were difficult to relate to since, just as one was getting attached to one, a new one would appear, disrupting the entire atmosphere. In addition, the characters were not particularly likeable, making it difficult for me to empathize with them. The characters' backstories were not fully described in the novel. Additionally, nothing piques my interest and compels me to read the book from start to finish.
The book was both interesting and educational. It is clearly written, and the diction is simple to understand. I found no errors in the book, indicating that it had been exceptionally edited. However, I’m giving this book a rating of three out of five starts because of the profane words and things I didn’t like about the book which I’ve mentioned above.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading fantasy and fiction.
