This sounds like a emotionally driven book about tragedy within families. I feel for Max who had to put his childhood aside to care for his brothers. It sounds like a story of strife - one that I hope has a happy ending. Thanks for the informative review.

I shall look at this book to equally get a good perspective on Jewish traditions. Thanks for the review.

Hmm nice review, but anyhow that when fathers are not good enough to their children. Then they know how to be good within themselves. & turn to be a better person, even better than their fathers.

What circumstances engulf family members when the parents escape from their responsibilities and how their children struggle and face harsh realities in this world is the theme of this engaging story.

A book that talks about how Jacob and
his brother, Heschel, were loved by their mother but didn't receive any love and attention from their father. The book also talks about how their father treated them following the death of their mother. The book characters were well developed and the book is edited exceptionally. Great review.

I like your review. I am not sure if I want to read it after learning part of the suspense is lost in chapter 8. I already do not like Max. Think I will wait on this one. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for your great review. I wasn't sure either why the author let us know in chapter 8 what would be happening later on. I did like her style of writing though. Though some parts were a little uncomfortable to read, I was glad that at least for the sample nothing was graphic. After reading your review, I knew I wanted to add it to my list of books to read.

As someone who went through something similar, Jacob's emotions and story resonated with me. Johanna was a sweet woman I hope she has a happy ending. The sample gave me enough want to read the rest of the book when I have the extra money to do so. :D
