Review of Innocent Assassin
The book Innocent Assassin was written by Paul McDonald. This book is centered around Sakura Bianchi, who suffered gruesome torture and rape by five masked men. She survived while the men killed her mother on the spot. In this book, Sakura is focused on avenging the gruesome death of her mother as well as the misery she passed through while recuperating. With the help of her grandpa, Hirutu Hotato, she was sent to train for some years at the temple, learning martial arts and new skills. She needed those skills to be better as she embarked on her mission. With the police hot on her heels, she started carrying out her plan. Was she successful?
One thing I like about this book is the suspense. I was eager to see what happened at the end, and that was what drove me to complete the book. I felt the near catch by the police was a good way to spike the curiosity of the readers. I enjoyed the thrill associated with the investigations by the police as I wondered whether they would be able to identify the assassin. It definitely kept me on my toes. I was fascinated by the name of the book at first sight. How can an assassin be innocent? However, I got to understand why the author chose that title. The author managed to use his skills to keep my eyes glued to the story.
However, Paul’s editing was really poor. His punctuation marks were almost always missing, and it was difficult for me to keep up with his writing style. I also did not like the fact that there was no sort of warning before every graphic scene described, as well as before narrating a rape scene. I found the rape scenes traumatic, and I felt those scenes should not have been repeated much. I also felt that the book was a bit confusing to read. Some subsequent chapters were unrelated, and I had to flip back a few times to get the context of the new chapter.
I would rate this book three out of five stars. This is because the writing was too poor, the punctuation was bad, and there was no warning before any of the graphic scenes. I didn’t deduct any other stars because while the writing style was poor, the book surely kept me on my toes.
I recommend this book to people that love a good suspenseful story. They would certainly appreciate the time they spend reading this book.
