WTF Doc!: A Kelly Stone Adventure by Marc Longcor is a novel that immerses the reader into a world of aliens, monsters, and heroes. This is a combination that is very likely to excite any science fiction lover like me.

Following a failed experiment by Doctor Pantera, who hoped to use alien blood to cure numerous life-threatening diseases like cancer, the test subjects underwent mutations, leading to their transformation into different kinds of monsters: Thinkers, Dozers, and Ragers. These monsters rampaged through Palm City, Missouri, killing almost everyone in their way. Kelly Stone, an ex-military, undercover salon owner who trades guns, represents a part of the last humans alive in the city, along with his best friends, Kate and Stacy, and his trainer back in the army, Jack. The battle for survival, not just for their lives but also for the city, commences. Unfortunately, there are just forty-eight hours until the government, which has exhausted all options to contain the situation, launches nuclear weapons as a last resort.

In this race against time, one thing you must have guessed is that this is a highly suspenseful novel. I like how well the author has created this dangerous and scary world while including characters that match the craziness of this world. From the impulsive, skillful Kelly and the abnormally strong Jack to the tough and uncompromising Kate, there was a lot to like about the characters, and I was often left at the edge of my seat, wondering how these characters would survive almost impossible situations. The story is also narrated from the shifting first-person perspective, putting readers directly into the shoes of all the characters while they experience the horrors of this fictional world.

The author also displays a distinct style of descriptive writing that brings most scenes to life, especially the action scenes, and there are a whole lot of action scenes in the book. In fact, the action pretty much starts from the first few chapters and doesn't stop until the end. I enjoyed every bit of it, but readers should be aware of how violent the scenes can be, especially with a lot of shooting, slashing, and blood. This aspect may put some readers off.

While the story has a lot of serious moments, a key trait that each of the main characters possesses is a great sense of humor. Their ability to make and take jokes, even in the worst of situations, diffuses the tension, not just for themselves but for readers as well. I will never get over Jack constantly describing himself as "worse than an STD you can't get rid of" in talking about his inability to be killed. Whether he makes it to the end of the story alive or not is something you will have to find out by picking up a copy of the book.

On a slightly negative note, the main character, Kelly, comes across as immature at times, with sex constantly on his mind, and I expected more from a thirty-five-year-old. I hoped he would show some growth as the story went on, but that never happened. I also found several errors while reading the book, and they were enough to conclude that the novel was not professionally edited. This was what I liked least about the book.

I rate WTF Doc!: A Kelly Stone Adventure by Marc Longcor three out of five stars. The issues I discussed above influenced my rating, but I still enjoyed the book overall, especially the action scenes, so I couldn't rate it lower. Readers who enjoy action-filled science fiction will enjoy reading this book. Also, keep in mind that the kind of profanity in the book's title is very prevalent throughout the book.

Books that have the characters in a race against time while battling monsters are usually a wonderful read. I hope the author is able to correct the errors for a better read. Great review.

This is an interesting and engaging novel. How will these people fight against these monsters? Is it even possible to fight against what you don’t know its source? It will be interesting getting the answers to these questions. Nice revuew!

Adventurous science fiction with a lot of bits that seem tongue-in-cheek must be fun to read. It looks like a part of a series, so I'll look into that but I hope the author does proper proofreading. Thank you for your great review!
