Advantages of Audio Books

Have you read Rarity from the Hollow? If so, do you think that it would make a good audio book? If so, again, do you know of a publisher that I might contact? I'll have to double check, but I don't think that my contract with Dog Horn Publishing mentions audio books. Thanks.

A poster above "hates" audio books because of bad readers.

That has not been my experience. Generally I find the readers satisfactory, some I find tremendous, so good i cannot imagine another voice in place.

Several of the books mentioned on this site have wonderful audio veersions. "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" books are read by two different South African actresses who convey wonderfully the musical lilt of the subject "ladies".

Japer FForde's "The Fourth bear" is remarkably realized on audio.

In first place for me, Tim Dorsey's Serge Storm character is read with a maniacal glee that will be irreplaceable.

My experience with audiobooks has been very positive as well. I'm always listening to a book in the car for commutes. I can only remember 1 or 2 audiobook narrators that I just couldn't stand listening to. In general, they are very good and I think audiobooks have come a long way. If someone has had a bad experience in the past, I suggest trying again as it can be a rewarding experience!

Oh, I agree!!!!! Also, I've listened to P G Wodehouse audio "A Damsel In Distress" using my iPad and the reader Frederick Davidson is superb - such a rich British accent.

You'll get the story right through your ears and you'll have an easy access to your rich imagination , rather than struggling to read line by line!

I would rather read a real book, but I love listening to books. We listen to them in the car when driving or going on trips. It makes the time go by.

I used audio books while driving 2 hours to and from school each day. The voices really irritated me, but some I got used to. Either way, it let me "read" while driving.

I have just started to try and experiment with this, because I am a multi-tasked at heart. My grand daughter and I just started a few children's books on my kindle Fire and if you don't pay extra for the good narration then it comes out stilted and not very good. I just downloaded a few self help books from the library to try out.

I have never "read" an audiobook. I like to hear my own voice in my head.

I am not a fan of audiobooks. I would much prefer to read the book myself. I have tried it, and realized that it's enjoyable to be able to listen while I do other things, like clean the house. However, I have NOT enjoyed how it's read. It's just not how I would "hear" it in my head if I were listening. And one I tried was especially bad. All I kept thinking was "People don't talk like that!" Maybe I just chose a bad one, I don't know. Either way, I prefer to hold the book and read it.
