To be able to live in a world wherein your life is controlled seems utterly terrifying. There are so many things you would want to experience and decide for yourself. You would crave independence and the ability to choose on your own, among other things.

Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction novel that revolves around the character of Kim and how she lives as a human being that is being controlled by AIs. This dystopian novel depicts the challenges she faces when it comes to dealing with the things she is expected to do and fulfill. She also faces hardships along the way when she does not comply with the rules and regulations of the AI and the hierarchy. First of all, what I loved most about this book is that it is a very interesting read that would make readers imagine and feel what it is like to live in a dystopian world. The author did a great job of making this novel interesting and easy to understand despite some technical terms used.

Aside from that, I also think that the author did a great job in creating the characters for this novel. The characters are relatable despite being flawed in different ways. Naturally, I appreciated Kim’s character the most because she is perceptive and smart, and she also represented how important it is to fight for one’s freedom. Meanwhile, I also really liked Shan’s character and how she was able to highlight the importance of being brave and true to oneself.

One of the things I also really loved about this novel is that it was able to discuss the importance of being able to make decisions for yourself and not let society dictate what you should do or not do. I also really appreciate that the novel was able to depict the importance of being honest with your gender preference as well. In this novel, Kim felt confused about how she felt about her gender preference, but she realized how she truly felt and became honest with herself and her feelings, which is amazing.

Aside from that, I also loved the pacing of the novel. It gave a great introduction from the start so that readers could understand and feel what it is like to live in Kim’s shoes in her world. From then on, the novel starts to introduce more concepts about AIs and the world Kim lives in. If there is one thing I would like for this novel to have, I would have loved more details regarding Shan as well. This novel is really interesting, unique, and well-written. I did not find any grammatical errors, and I find this book to be professionally well-edited. Overall, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5. I would recommend this book to adult readers because there are some drug and alcohol usage, and some sexual scenes as well. But I am sure that adult readers who are into science fiction novels would enjoy and love this novel. This is worth your time, and I cannot wait to read the next sequel in this series.
