Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a book that follows the life of Kim, the main character. The story is set in the future. She is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) graduate employed by the AI Company. Almost everything is run by the AI Company. Every human living in the cities bears an implant linked to the AI Company. The implant helps the company monitor the lives and movements of the population. It is like a New World Order, and all citizens are required by law to conform to the AI Company’s rules and guidelines, failure to which an individual is slapped with fines and/or more severe punishment.

The AI Company strives to govern the population with an iron fist. The methods it uses to ensure control over people are inhumane. As such, only a select few of its employees are allowed access to the entity’s inner workings. Kim lands a promotion after gathering infractions, which is quite awkward. She joins the inner circle of the company. What follows is her struggle to accomplish the goals assigned to her, all while coming to terms with the overwhelming realization of the company’s unpleasant secrets and antics.

There are a lot of things that I like about the book. First and foremost, the story is very interesting. It was nice to read about the author’s perspective on how life in the future will be. AI is being adopted in the world. It was nice to get some insights into how AI can be used in a real-world setting. I also liked the fact that the book was written in simple and clear language, which helped me understand the story easily. The author’s style of writing ensured I was always curious to know what happened next. The story is so captivating that I read it in one sitting. The author’s final words were also quite insightful. They challenge the place of AI in society, and the notion of self-identity.

I found nothing to dislike about the book. The author clearly articulated his ideas of a future under AI, in addition to painting a picture of how he thinks life in those times will be. I did not find any errors in the book. It was exceptionally well-edited.

I rate this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars. The story is very interesting, and the author did a good job of passing his message to the readers. I would recommend this book to people interested in technology, AI, and science fiction.
