Galen Bray, a young boy from the land of the Princes, learns of a huge inheritance left for him by an uncle he's never met before, forcing him to flee to this new country with advanced technology and knowledge as a refugee. Luckily, his uncle left an executor for the inheritance, Rowan, who helped Galen learn about his new business and how to maneuver around the town of Magnum Caelum. The first days were as difficult as usual; on the one hand, he was trying to learn the work of a steel smith before taking over, and on the other hand, Rowan did not seem trustworthy or loyal to him. What were his true intentions concerning the wealth of Galen’s uncle? Galen Bray finally learns the art of steel smithing and adventures other towns while supplying steel. The duo discovers a gem and has adventures in the Hillport part of the Kingdom, seeking help to understand what it is. However, Galen’s main objective was to get to the capital city of Voulhire, for he had heard so many magnificent stories about it. Will Galen learn the beliefs of science, spirituality, and magic? Which one will he lean toward?

We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, the first book in the series, is a non-fiction based on a kingdom with different towns named according to the economic support given to the country and different people with varying beliefs on science, spirituality, and magic.

I really liked how Matthew Tysz brought about twists and turns while maintaining the flow of the story and a bit of humor, which, I must confess, really kept me turning pages to answer my questions of "what" and "why." The use of simple and descriptive words was amazing, I felt present, especially the part about dancing soldiers, which really put me on edge as I kept wondering whether they would attack the town or spare the people.

However much I enjoyed this story, I did not like how the author brought out the weak character of Galen Bray. Being the center of the story, he ought to be brave and heroic, not running away, for instance, when the town of Magnum Caelum was attacked.

I rate We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz 5 out of 5 because it was professionally edited, and the story and themes were well connected. I recommend this book to readers who love science, fantasy, magic, history, and adventure.
