Mary Grace and her younger brother Donny, who has Down syndrome, are the subjects of Catherine Anna Pepe's intriguing novel, Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventure. The story focuses on the time they spent with their grandparents in California while their parents were away on a missionary journey.

Donny and Mary Grace lived happily with their parents in Wichita, but due to her parents' missionary duties, they had to move to Africa, leaving Donny and Mary Grace in the care of their grandparents.

Without her parents, Mary Grace found it challenging to begin a new life in California. At her new school, she started to face bullying, and an unidentified classmate started writing threatening notes on her desk. The notes made fun of her brother, Donny. This upset her. But because she was courageous, she decided to investigate the situation and find the perpetrator.

This book is wonderful in every way. It is worth noting that the plot is superb and that the writing style makes it easy to comprehend what is being read. This book is methodically divided into seventeen chapters, each of which contains an engrossing passage of prose. Another noteworthy aspect of the book is the strong character development. Additionally, the book contained no errors due to its concise editing.

There was nothing to dislike about this book. The few illustrations here gave me a clear picture of the scenes they depicted, although I think the book would have been more interesting if there were more pictures in it, as this would grab children's attention more effectively.

I'm rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Although this is a children's book, I quite enjoyed reading it, and I recommend it to both children from 7 years of age and their parents because there are lessons in this book for both of them.
