Bungler Bear & Friends by Michael Hogan is a children's book with an amazing friendship tale. Like every other bear, Bungler lives in the forest, but his identity as a “bungler" resulted from some embarrassing situations that had happened when he was younger. Bungler was regarded with little respect among his kind because of his failed attempts to get things right. But deep down, Bungler was a good bear, and the perfect opportunity to express his amazing self came when he found new friends. What would friendship be like for Bungler, who had always been alone for so long? How will these friends be of help to Bungler? Find out in this interesting tale.

In consonance with writing this book to entertain young readers, the author uses simple animal characters that readers are familiar with. One of these characters is Birdie, the nestling. Birdie faced so many challenges even as a little bird, and her endurance would inspire readers to be patient and tolerant. Another amazing character in the book is Froggy. Although Froggy is a lonely frog, he finds the inspiration to give a chance to friendship. The writer selected a few of the challenges young people face and fit them into animal characters with solutions that would delight the readers. This, I believe, will be a positive impact on readers.

Another positive content in the book is the many values that the story seeks to communicate. These can be noted at different points in the book. For instance, in the presence of intimidating and scary rats, Birdie still chooses the right thing to do. Also, when Bungler was preparing for the “Australian Champion, Kangaroo King Challenge," he invested so much effort in his training to deliver his best. Altogether, the experiences are amazing, and readers would find them interesting.

The book includes vivid images and colorful pictures to best depict the storyline. This would give readers a good memory of the book even after reading it. Hence, I rate this book five out of five stars. Only a few errors are found in the book, so readers wouldn't have difficulty comprehending the story.

I recommend this book primarily to young readers, but it would also serve as a good read for children who love reading references to friendship.
