Review of Terms of Service
In a futuristic world where all human activities and exchanges are governed by set rules that are moderated and kept in check by highly integrated AI surveillance systems, humanity appears to have lost its diversity, spontaneity, and individuality. Free will appears to be regarded as a plague, long lost to history, and any traces of it found in the actions of an individual are brutally suppressed.
Life appears to go on smoothly for those who hold the system in the highest regard, those who are quick to obey and abide by the governing rules, even in the midst of these seemingly suffocating conditions. Any attempt to resist is met with sanctions designed to make one's life more difficult. Keeping this in mind, Kim, an AI company employee, strives to conform to authority and avoid actions or circumstances that make her stand out, despite the emptiness she feels as a result of living in such suffocating conditions. She meets an old friend who awakens in her many qualities that the ruling order wishes to suppress, and eventually, after a certain encounter, both individuals trail off the safe road into what appears to be an endless torrent of struggles to get back on the right track by falling in line and obeying orders or risking it all by breaking free from the system's choke hold. Follow Kim and others like her in Craig W. Stanfill's Terms of Service to see how she fights to reclaim her humanity.
For several reasons, I really enjoyed reading this novel. In my opinion, the novel has a rather distinct worldbuilding and started off with some notes to help the reader better understand this. Certain things that would normally seem odd are pointed out. Some concepts seemed a bit hard to understand at first, but that changed as I got used to the terminologies as I continued reading. It was a vibrant read and captured my imagination about the many possible developments between humans and technology. The author's use of language to capture the characters' emotions was clear and convincing. The novel had no errors; it was exceptionally well edited, which made the reading experience even more pleasant.
I really enjoyed this novel, and I didn't find anything negative worth pointing out. However, I'll advise that readers take time to fully understand the terminologies of the book. In some cases, it may be necessary for one to re-read a few parts in order to gain clarity and see the whole picture.
This novel was exceptionally well edited. The plot was well paced, in my opinion. It was calm and enlightening, then gradually became very suspenseful, leaving me wondering what would happen next on Kim's journey. I greatly enjoyed this novel and am glad to have come upon it. I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because I believe it deserves nothing less. I sincerely hope that readers will enjoy this novel as much as I did.
I highly recommend this book to those who love science fiction novels. If you are sure to be intrigued by a story set in a futuristic state, and if you enjoy reading about hard science and related themes, then this book would be great for you too. This book also contains a certain level of sexual content, so anyone hoping to read this book should also be aware of this.
